Mouldlife Macwax 400ml | Wax Mould Release Agent
Mouldlife Macwax is a wax-based mould release agent in a convenient 400ml aerosol, developed to cleanly release polyurethane, polyester, epoxy and other plastics from silicone or resin moulds. A thin coat inside your mould prevents your cast prosthetic or prop from sticking, keeping both mould and casting intact.
- Wax-based release: denser coating than silicone sprays
- Suitable for polyurethane, polyester, epoxy, silicone and other plastics
- Seals porous mould surfaces for a smoother casting result
- 400ml aerosol, enough for numerous applications
- Industry standard for mould-making and prosthetic builds
What is Macwax?
Macwax is a wax-based solvent that leaves a micro-thin layer on your mould surface. This allows your resin or plastic to release cleanly after curing, without tearing or leaving residue in the mould. Unlike a silicone spray, Macwax leaves a light wax coating that also seals porous mould surfaces.
Why choose Macwax 400ml?
The wax-based formula provides a denser, more consistent barrier than standard silicone sprays. That means fewer release failures, less residue and a cleaner cast surface every time.
It works across a wide range of materials, including polyurethane foam, polyester resin, epoxy and silicone. Whether you are casting prosthetics, props or industrial parts, the 400ml aerosol gives you enough coverage for many pours without running out mid-project.
How to use Macwax
Shake the can well before use. Spray a thin, even coat onto the mould from approximately 20cm away and leave to dry for 1 to 2 minutes before pouring. Once your resin or plastic has cured, the casting releases cleanly thanks to the wax barrier.
Pro tip: On new or porous moulds, apply two or three coats of Macwax, allowing each to dry fully between applications. This builds up a solid release layer and prevents the first casting from bonding directly to the mould surface.
Safety and removal
Always work in a well-ventilated space and keep the aerosol away from open flames. Read the label before use and store the can upright in a cool, dry location.
Residue on tools and surfaces can be removed with a solvent-based cleaner. For silicone moulds, occasional cleaning with isopropyl alcohol keeps the mould surface free from wax build-up after repeated use.
What can you use it for?
- Releasing foam latex and platinum silicone prosthetics from SFX moulds
- Casting polyurethane and polyester resin props and creature parts
- Sealing porous plaster or fibreglass moulds before pouring
- Mould-making workshops, theatre and film production
- Industrial casting and prototyping
