What is Polytek PlatSil silicone?
PlatSil Gel is a platinum silicone used worldwide by special effects makeup artists in film, TV and theatre. The silicone moves and feels like real skin, so you can create realistic prosthetics with it, such as wounds, scars and other facial or body distortions. You mix the two components (Part A and Part B) in equal parts, optionally add the deadener to make the end result even softer, and pour the whole into a mould.
Which PlatSil do you choose?
The PlatSil Gel range comes in increasing hardness, so you choose the silicone that suits your application:
- Gel-00 is the softest and feels very supple, great for large, mobile pieces.
- Gel-10 is the widely used middle ground for most prosthetics.
- Gel-25 is firmer and holds its shape better, handy for smaller or sturdy pieces.
If you want to make the silicone even softer, you can add a deadener.
How do you colour PlatSil silicone?
PlatSil is translucent by itself. You colour it with Mouldlife Silicone Pigments or with Key-Pigments from Neill's Materials. Mix the pigment into Part B first and only then add Part A. Use a small dose, because the pigments are highly concentrated.
