Super Baldiez is a liquid cap plastic from Mouldlife for building bald caps and encapsulating silicone prosthetics. It dries to a stretchier, stronger and clearer film than standard Baldiez, and you blend the edges with IPA instead of acetone - making it gentler on skin and giving you a bit more working time.

What is Super Baldiez?

Super Baldiez has the same two uses as regular Baldiez. As a bald cap, you build it up layer by layer over a Red Head. As an encapsulator, you apply it in an ultra-thin coat around a silicone prosthetic so the edge blends invisibly into the skin.

The difference from standard Baldiez comes down to two things: Super Baldiez is noticeably stretchier and tougher, and you blend the edges with IPA instead of acetone. That makes it less aggressive on the skin and produces clean, clear edges that melt seamlessly into the skin.

When do you choose Super Baldiez over standard Baldiez?

If you need a cap that moves well on expressive facial areas, the extra stretch of Super Baldiez makes a real difference. The IPA blending also means less irritation during application and removal, which matters on longer shoot days or when working on sensitive skin.

The 500ml bottle is the right choice when you have multiple caps to build or a full production run ahead. For smaller one-off projects, the 120ml size is available too.

How to use Super Baldiez

1. Prepare your head form: apply a thin layer of Macwax mould release to your Kryolan Red Head so the cap releases cleanly without tearing.
2. Apply four to six layers, either sprayed or brushed on. Let each layer dry fully before adding the next, otherwise air bubbles will form.
3. Wait thirty minutes after the final layer, then release the cap carefully. First dust the entire surface with a thin coat of Setting Powder. Then ease the cap off the head form using a powder brush loaded with setting powder.
4. Trim to size and adhere to skin with Pros-Aide.
5. Blend the edges using a cotton bud dipped in IPA.

Removing Super Baldiez

Peel the cap away from the skin gently. Remove any adhesive residue with Pro-Clean cleansing oil or Life Wipes, then wash the face with a mild soap. Clean your airbrush or brush immediately after use with IPA.

Safety tips

• Work in a well-ventilated space. IPA produces vapour, even if less aggressive than acetone.

• Build up slowly in thin layers for a smooth, clear film.
