Everything about Superstar Glitter Gel
Superstar is a Dutch face paint brand with a long history. The Glitter Gel in this category is a clear gel with glitter already worked in, packed in handy 15 ml jars. You apply the gel with a brush or your fingers, directly from the jar, onto skin or through the hair.
Linda Gloudemans, owner of SchminkenGrime.nl, works with Superstar Glitter Gel at events, in workshops and in training sessions. Her experience as a make-up artist, trainer and examiner means she knows exactly when a glitter gel is the better choice over loose face paint glitters or glitter cream, and when it is not.
What's in this category?
Superstar Glitter Gels come in three types:
- Single colours with glitter in Green, Gold, Purple, Red, Blue, Silver, Pearl and Multicolour. One colour per jar, with glitter blended throughout.
- Glitter mixes combining multiple colours in one jar: Funky, Alaaf, Peacock, Phoenix and Mermaid. Handy when you want a multi-colour effect in a single stroke.
- Glitterless Gel, a clear gel without glitter. Designed as a base you can add loose glitter to yourself, for example from the Superstar Fine Glitter or Superstar Chunky Glitter range.
How do you use Superstar Glitter Gel?
Pick up a small amount of gel from the jar with a brush or your finger. Apply the gel where you want a glitter effect: as an accent on the face or through the hair for a glitter streak.
For fine details a brush works best; for larger areas your fingers are quicker. Let the gel dry slightly before working over it or adding another layer on top.
Glitter gel or loose glitter?
Glitter gel and loose glitter both create a glitter effect, but you reach for them in different situations.
Glitter gel is the go-to when you want to work quickly or when you want a ready-made combination of colour and glitter. The glitter is already in the gel, so there is nothing to mix or set. Practical for children's parties, Halloween events and festival bookings where speed matters. One thing to be aware of: glitter gel does not sit as well over water-based face paint, because the aloe vera gel in the formula can reactivate the face paint underneath and cause it to smudge.
Loose glitter gives you more control over how much glitter you use and in which colour. Press Superstar Fine Glitter into still-damp face paint, dust Superstar Sparkling Glitter over the design, or choose Superstar Chunky Glitter for a bolder statement. For chunky glitter with a longer-wear finish, take a look at Superstar Chunky Glitter Cream.
Removing glitter gel
To keep glitter particles out of the water supply, remove the glitter first with a cotton pad and a skin-friendly oil. Then lift the last traces of glitter from the skin gently with painter's tape or masking tape. Dispose of the used tape and any glitter residue in general waste.
Storing glitter gel
Close the jar securely after each use so the gel does not dry out. Store the jars in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
