Key-Pigments Silicone Pigment Yellow Ochre, 50 grams
Key-Pigments Silicone Pigment Yellow Ochre is a highly concentrated colour mixing base for adding warm yellow undertones to platinum silicone. Unlike the Flesh variants, Yellow Ochre is not a ready-to-use skin tone - it is an undertone correction pigment you blend with other Key-Pigments or base colours to achieve your exact skin match in silicone prosthetics.
- Concentrated yellow undertone mixing base for platinum silicone
- Developed by SFX artist Neill Gorton
- 50 gram bottle, suits multiple prosthetic batches
- Consistent colour results across batches
- Compatible with PlatSil Gel, Sculpt Gel and other platinum silicones
What are Key-Pigments Silicone Pigments?
Key-Pigments are colour pastes formulated for platinum silicone. You add them to your silicone mix before curing to achieve consistent, lifelike skin tones. The system was developed by Neill Gorton, a leading name in professional SFX prosthetics, specifically for repeatable results across multiple batches.
The Key-Pigments range includes four direct skin tones (Pale Flesh, Warm Flesh, Medium Flesh, Dark Flesh) and two mixing bases (Red Iron and Yellow Ochre) for fine-tuning undertones.
When do you choose Yellow Ochre over a ready-to-use skin tone?
Yellow Ochre is your tool when an existing Flesh tone is too cool or too pink for the skin you are trying to match. A small addition shifts the entire mix towards a warmer, more natural golden undertone. Choose it when you are working from a reference skin tone that has a visible yellow cast - common in Mediterranean, East Asian and many South Asian complexions.
It also gives you far more control over medium and dark tones that tend to read as too grey or too red straight from the Flesh variants.
How to use Key-Pigments Yellow Ochre
- Add the pigment to Part B of your platinum silicone before combining with Part A. This preserves your working time for even colour distribution and keeps the cure timing consistent.
- Start with a single drop and build up gradually until you reach the undertone you need.
- Using a deadener for skin-like flexibility? Add the pigment to Part B and the Smiths Prosthetic Deadener to Part A, then combine both.
- Use a separate spatula or mixing stick for each colour to avoid cross-contamination between pots.
- Test your mix on a small sample before colouring a full silicone batch.
Pro tip: Keep your dosage around 0.5% of total silicone weight for clean dispersion without curing issues. Yellow Ochre is highly concentrated - even one drop too many can push your mix noticeably darker. Mix on a glass plate in natural light to judge the undertone shift accurately before committing to a full batch.
Tips for working with concentrated silicone pigments
- Keep the bottle tightly sealed and stored in a cool, dry place.
- Shake or stir thoroughly before use to redistribute any settled pigment.
- Dose carefully: the concentration is high enough that a single large drop can make your mix unusably dark.
- Label your mixed batches with the exact pigment ratios so you can reproduce them later.

- Correcting over-pink or over-cool Flesh tones in your silicone mix
