Ben Nye Bruise Wheel
The Ben Nye Bruise Wheel (EW-1) is a compact crème makeup wheel by Ben Nye with four colours specifically designed for bruising, contusions, and wound effects. The soft cream formula is highly pigmented, blendable, and works on skin, latex, gelatine, wax, silicone, and prosthetics.
- Cream makeup (grease paint), not water-activated
- 4 colours for bruises and contusions
- Highly pigmented, soft blendable formula
- Works on skin and over latex, gelatine, wax, silicone, prosthetics
- Contents: 28g (1 oz)
What bruise and wound effects can you create with this wheel?
The four colours cover the classic bruise colour progression - from fresh impact (deep red-purple) to healing (green-yellow). With Sallow Green, Midnite Violet, Purple, and Dark Burgundy you can realistically portray every stage of a bruise.
That makes this wheel useful for a wide range of wound effects: fresh impacts, older bruising, strangulation marks, or complex injuries where multiple healing stages are visible at once.
When should you choose this wheel over individual cream colours?
Choose this wheel when you regularly switch between the four bruise stages and want everything compact and ready to go. The colours are matched to work together, so you blend straight away without hunting for the right combinations.
For makeup artists working on multiple performers in one evening, that saves noticeable time. One wheel covers a full bruise look from start to finish.
How to use it
Apply the cream with a Mehron Latex Foam Sponge for soft, stippled transitions that mimic real capillary texture. Use your fingers for warm blending over larger areas, or a fine brush for sharp edges and fine detail work. Build the look up in thin layers.
Pro tip: Start with Sallow Green as an undertone around the wound edges, then layer Midnite Violet as the main colour over the centre. Add Dark Burgundy for the deepest, freshest point of impact. Blend Purple through the transitions for a realistic multi-stage bruise.
Setting and removing
Cream makeup always needs a setting step. Dust the finished look with a setting powder using a powder puff to make it transfer-resistant. To remove it, use an oil-based makeup remover or Ben Nye Quick Cleanse.
What can you use it for?
- Bruises and contusions on skin or prosthetics
- Strangulation and choke marks
- Theatre, film and TV: fight scenes and trauma looks
- SFX and Halloween: realistic injuries
- Makeup training and SFX education
