The four colours in this wheel - Black (CL-29), Fire Red (CL-13), Cosmic Blue (CL-191) and Yellow (CL-5) - cover every classic clown design. Think bold red mouths and noses, blue brows, bright yellow highlights and black outlines for sharp theatrical detail.
Because these are primary colours, you can also mix them on a palette to get green, orange or purple. So the wheel gives you more range than four shades might suggest.
When should you choose this wheel over individual colours?
This wheel makes sense when you need to switch between primary shades quickly and want everything compact in one place. It replaces four separate pots and fits neatly in any kit bag. How to use it
Apply the cream makeup with a Mehron Latex Foam Sponge for soft, blended transitions, or use your fingers for warm blending. For sharp lines - like contour stripes or detailed clown mouths - use a fine face painting brush. For a more transparent effect, mix the makeup on a palette with a drop of 99% alcohol before applying.
Pro tip: Start with Yellow as a base on the forehead and cheeks, press Fire Red onto the mouth and nose area, then sharpen the contours with Black. Add Cosmic Blue to the brows and eye corners for a classic Pierrot or Harlequin finish.
Setting and removing
Cream makeup needs to be set with setting powder to improve longevity and prevent smearing. Apply with a powder puff and brush off any excess. To remove, use an oil-based makeup remover or Ben Nye Quick Cleanse.
