Ben Nye Bruises Wheel (Compact)
The Ben Nye Bruises Wheel (Compact) is a compact crème makeup wheel by Ben Nye for creating realistic bruises and discolouration effects. The four colours cover a classic bruise progression - from fresh injury to the yellowy-green of healing skin.
- Crème formula (oil-based), highly pigmented
- 4 colours: fresh bruise to healing progression
- Blendable on skin, latex, gelatine, wax and prosthetics
- Compact size: 14g / 0.5 oz
- Ben Nye code: CK-1
What bruise and wound effects can you create with this wheel?
The four colours cover the full colour range of a bruise at different stages. From the dark burgundy of a fresh injury, through deep violet and purple, to the sallow green of skin that's starting to heal.
That makes this wheel useful beyond basic bruises. Think aged contusions, anaemic skin tones, and subtle discolouration around wounds for theatre and film productions.
When should you choose this wheel over individual colours?
All four shades are designed to work together. You don't need to hunt for the right combination of dark purple, violet and sallow green separately. Choose this wheel when you need a convincing bruise progression quickly, without mixing colours from scratch.
The compact size fits easily in any kit bag. For larger productions where you need more product, there's also the full-size Ben Nye Bruises Wheel (Regular) at 28g.
How to use it
Apply the crème with a Mehron Latex Foam Sponge for soft, stippled transitions that mimic real bruising. A fingertip works well for quick, warm blending. Use a fine brush for sharper edges or fine detail work. The crème applies directly to skin, and also over latex, gelatine, wax, silicone and prosthetics.
Pro tip: Start with Dark Burgundy (FX-5) at the centre of the bruise. Blend Midnite Violet (FX-7) and Purple (CL-18) outwards for the typical purple-blue rings. Stipple Sallow Green (FX-11) at the outer edge for the healing stage. Small circular movements with a damp fingertip give the most natural blend.
Setting and removing
Set crème makeup with a setting powder to improve wear and prevent transfer. Press on with a powder puff, then sweep away any excess with a powder brush.
Remove with a crème makeup remover such as Ben Nye Quick Cleanse, or with soap and water for lighter applications.
What can you use it for?
- Realistic bruising for theatre and film
- SFX wounds for Halloween attractions and scare events
- Bruise effects over prosthetics and latex masks
- Age and fatigue effects in character makeup
- Trauma simulations for training and education
