Ben Nye Cuts & Bruises Wheel
The Ben Nye Cuts & Bruises Wheel (EW-3) is a compact crème make-up wheel from Ben Nye for creating cuts, bruises and wounds in various stages of healing. The four colours are specifically matched for realistic wound and bruise effects in theatre, film and SFX work.
- Crème make-up (oil-based), not water-activated
- 4 SFX colours: Blood Red, Sapphire Blue, Forest Green, Yellow
- Highly pigmented, soft blendable crème formula
- Works on skin, latex, gelatine, wax, silicone and prosthetics
- Contents: 28g (1 oz)
What cuts and bruise effects can you create with this wheel?
The four colours cover the full spectrum of a wound: from a fresh cut to an ageing bruise in recovery. Blood Red gives the fresh injury, Sapphire Blue and Forest Green the bruise tones, and Yellow the faded, healing stage of a bruise that's several days old.
That means you're not limited to one effect - you can tell a whole story on the skin. The colour order you choose determines how old or how fresh the injury looks.
When do you choose this wheel over individual crème colours?
Choose this wheel when you need to switch quickly between wound and bruise tones on set without managing separate pots. All the colours for bruise progression are compact and ready in one place.
The crème formula is warm and blendable, so you can work colours into each other directly. That's the key advantage over water-activated face paint: no waiting for layers to dry, and you blend with your fingers or a latex foam sponge.
How to use
Apply the colours with a latex foam sponge for soft, stippled transitions - ideal for bruising. For sharper wound edges, use a fine brush. Build the colours up in layers and blend them together for a realistic colour transition.
Pro tip: Start with Yellow as the base for an ageing bruise, layer Sapphire Blue over the centre and touch the edges with Forest Green. Add Blood Red along the wound edges for depth. That combination reads as two to three days old.
Setting and removing
Set the crème make-up with a setting powder applied via a powder puff. This prevents transfer and keeps the make-up in place - even under warm lights or during physical scenes.
Remove with Ben Nye Quick Cleanse or a gentle oil-based make-up remover. Soap and water work too, but an oil-based remover breaks down crème make-up more effectively.
What can you use it for?
- Cuts and abrasions for theatre and film
- Bruises in different stages of healing
- Combat injuries for LARP and cosplay
- SFX simulations for medical training and first responder exercises
- Halloween looks with realistic wounds
