The Mehron Non Latex Foam Spons is a smooth, closed-cell foam sponge for applying creme make-up, greasepaint, alcohol-based make-up and liquid latex evenly and with good coverage. The fine cell structure distributes product smoothly without streaks or patches. Alcohol-based and latex products stay on the surface of the sponge rather than soaking in. Sold in packs of 6 so you can use a clean sponge for each colour or layer.
Please note: this sponge is not suitable for water-activated face paint. Because of the closed-cell structure, it does not hold enough moisture to activate water-based products properly, making it difficult to pick up and distribute the paint evenly.
What is the Mehron Non Latex Foam Spons?
The sponge has a flat, round shape that sits comfortably in the hand for both stippling and sweeping techniques. The non-latex composition makes it suitable for people with a latex allergy and is a more hygienic alternative to natural latex sponges.
How do you use this foam sponge?
For creme make-up and greasepaint: press the sponge into the greasepaint on your palette or pot, then apply to the skin using a stippling or sweeping motion. The fine structure spreads product evenly without streaks or patches, suitable for both small facial details and larger body areas.
For alcohol-based make-up: thanks to the closed-cell structure, alcohol-based make-up stays on the surface of the sponge. This lets you work in a controlled way with thin, transparent layers, skin textures and realistic special effects. For liquid latex: the closed-cell structure keeps Mehron Liquid Latex on the surface of the sponge, so you use less product and apply latex more evenly than with a natural sponge. Clean sponge per colour or layer: use a separate sponge for each colour or layer to avoid colour contamination. The pack contains 6 sponges for both professional and home use. Please note: a sponge used for latex is generally not reusable. The latex blocks the cell structure and the sponge hardens. Always use a fresh sponge for each new layer or application.
Care and cleaning
If you only use the sponge for creme make-up, alcohol-based make-up or greasepaint, you can clean it straight after use with lukewarm water and a mild soap or cleanser. Gently squeeze out the water without wringing to avoid damaging the structure, then leave it to air dry.
In practice, these sponges are often used as disposables when working with greasepaint and alcohol-based make-up. Especially in special effects work, many make-up artists prefer to use a fresh sponge for each project or colour.
