Ben Nye Master Bruise Wheel
The Ben Nye Master Bruise Wheel is a compact crème make-up wheel from Ben Nye, built around the full bruise cycle - from a fresh, livid knuckle to a yellowing, healing wound. The six colours are carefully matched to cover every stage in one organised palette.
- Crème formula (grease make-up), highly pigmented
- 6 shades covering the full bruise cycle: fresh to healing
- Blendable on skin, latex, gelatine, wax, silicone and prosthetics
- 100-600 applications per wheel, 28 g / 1 oz
- Professional use: SFX, theatre, film, moulage
What bruise and wound effects can you create with this wheel?
Yellow and Sallow Green recreate that yellow-green tint of a wound that's starting to heal. Blood Red, Purple and Midnight Violet capture the look of fresh subcutaneous bruising. Dark Burgundy adds depth to older or more severe injuries.
Combine the colours for burst capillaries, post-operative swelling or realistic moulage simulations. Every shade you need for a convincing bruise look is already in the wheel.
When should you choose this wheel over individual crème colours?
Choose this wheel when you regularly create bruise effects and need to move quickly between shades. Everything is in one compact format, colour-matched to the bruise cycle, so you spend less time mixing and more time working.
The crème formula blends warmer and softer than water-activated face paint, giving realistic colour gradients. It also adheres better to prosthetics and latex than most water-based alternatives.
How to use
Use a Latex Foam Sponge for soft, stippled transitions, or your fingertips for warm blending. For sharp edges or fine veins, reach for a fine brush. For a sheer, transparent layer, mix the crème on a palette with 99% alcohol before applying with a brush or sponge.
Pro tip: Start with Yellow as a base for the healed-skin tone, stipple Purple and Midnight Violet in the centre for the bruise core, then add Blood Red around the edges for fresh inflammation. Working outward to inward builds the cycle convincingly in just a few layers.
Setting and removing
Crème make-up needs to be set after application. Dust a layer of setting powder over the finished look with a powder puff, then brush away any excess. This locks the effect in place and makes it smudge-resistant.
Remove with an oil- or crème-based make-up remover such as Ben Nye Quick Cleanse. Water and soap work too, but a dedicated remover gives a cleaner result.
What can you use it for?
- SFX make-up for film, TV and theatre
- Moulage training and realistic wound simulations
- Halloween and horror events with detailed bruise effects
- Cosplay with injured or undead characters
- Photography and portrait SFX
