Ben Nye Shadow Wheel (compact)
The Ben Nye Shadow Wheel (compact) is a crème makeup wheel from Ben Nye for contouring, ageing effects and character modelling. The four brown shadow shades add depth, definition and dimension to any look - on face, neck or body.
- Crème formula (greasepaint), highly pigmented
- 4 brown shadow shades: medium to dark
- Blendable on skin, latex, gelatine, wax, silicone and prosthetics
- Compact format: 14g, 40-150 applications
- Professional use and advanced hobbyists
Which character and ageing looks can you create with this wheel?
The four shades CS-2 Medium Brown, CS-3 Character Shadow, CS-4 Dark Brown and CL-11 Cinnamon are designed for sculpting the face. Use them to accentuate wrinkles, deepen cheekbone hollows or give a jaw and nose strong character definition.
That makes this wheel particularly useful for ageing makeups, theatrical characters with heavily lined skin, and character looks where you want to reshape the facial structure optically.
When do you choose this wheel over individual contour makeup?
The four colours form a deliberate shadow spectrum: warm medium brown, character shadow, deep dark and a cinnamon undertone. Together they give you the gradations needed to make flat skin look three-dimensional.
Choose this wheel if you regularly do character or ageing makeups and want one compact set with the most-used shadow shades to hand. With 40-150 applications per wheel it holds up well under regular professional use.
How to use it
Apply with a Mehron Latex Foam Sponge for soft, stippled transitions or with your fingertips for warm blending. For sharp lines when accentuating wrinkles, use a fine brush. Build the shadow up in thin layers for the most control over the blend.
Pro tip: Start with CS-2 Medium Brown as a base shadow in the deeper planes of the face, blend CS-3 Character Shadow into the recesses for added depth, and touch the darkest hollows with CS-4 Dark Brown. Use CL-11 Cinnamon as a warm tone on the cheekbones or to soften the transition back to skin tone.
Setting and removing
Crème makeup needs to be set after application with a setting powder. Apply with a powder puff and remove excess with a brush. Without setting, the makeup stays soft and may smudge.
Remove with a gentle makeup remover or cleansing oil. Water and soap alone are usually not enough for greasepaint.
What can you use it for?
- Ageing makeups for theatre, film and TV
- Character modelling: nose, jaw, cheekbones
- Wrinkle and skin texture accentuation
- Contouring over special effects and prosthetics
- Shadow work on latex, gelatine, wax and silicone
