Woochie Latex Mutant Spike
The Woochie Latex Mutant Spike is a latex horn prosthetic from Woochie, designed for the forehead or top of the head. Apply the spikes, paint them in and your mutant look is complete.
What is the Mutant Spike?
A latex prosthetic in the shape of sharp protruding spikes, designed for the forehead or top of the head. The thin, finished edges blend smoothly into the skin. Remove carefully, clean and store dry - then you can use them again next time.
Why does this prosthetic work so well?
No moulding, no waiting for drying time, no liquid latex to build up layer by layer. The shape is already there. Your work is in blending the edges and painting it in. That is where you make the difference.
How do you apply the Mutant Spike?
Hold the prosthetic dry against your forehead first to find the right position. Do this before you apply any adhesive.
Apply a thin layer of skin adhesive to both the back of the prosthetic and your skin. Pros-Aide is the standard for long-lasting hold; for a quick fix you can also use spirit gum. Let the adhesive go tacky before pressing the prosthetic onto the skin.
Press the prosthetic firmly from the centre outwards to the edges. Blend the edges with liquid latex or Pros-Aide Cream. Multiple thin layers give the best transition. Powder the edges with setting powder before you start painting the prosthetic.
Painting
Paint the prosthetic with water-activated, oil-based or alcohol-activated make-up (such as the Encore palettes). Work in thin layers. Start with grey or brown as a base, push dark shadow into the grooves and add light highlights to the tips of the spikes for extra depth.
Setting and removal
Set your colour work with setting powder so nothing runs. To remove, work a remover such as Mouldlife Life Wipes, Ben Nye Remove it All or Pro-clean Cleansing Oil under the edges, lift the prosthetic carefully and rinse the skin with lukewarm water.
