Polytek PlatSil Gel-25 | Platinum Silicone 2kg
PlatSil Gel-25 is a medium-firm platinum-cure silicone from Polytek, designed for prosthetics, silicone masks and lifecasting. With a Shore A25 hardness it holds its shape better than Gel-10, making it the go-to choice for masks and appliances that need to slide or stretch over the skin.
- Platinum-cure silicone, Shore A25 hardness
- For prosthetics, silicone masks and lifecasting
- Simple 1:1 mix ratio by weight or volume
- Working time: 5 minutes, demould after approx. 1 hour
- Softenable with Deadener up to 100%
- 2 kg bulk size for larger productions
What prosthetics and effects do you make with PlatSil Gel-25?
PlatSil Gel-25 is the right choice whenever a prosthetic needs more structural integrity than Gel-10 provides. Think full silicone masks, facial appliances with defined edges, and lifecast moulds of the face or body. The Shore A25 hardness gives you enough body to hold fine detail without sacrificing skin-like movement.
It is used by SFX artists, prosthetics makers, and lifecasting studios working on film, theatre, and Halloween attractions worldwide.
When do you choose Gel-25 over Gel-10 or Gel-00?
Shore A25 sits between the ultra-soft Gel-00 and the standard prosthetics silicone Gel-10. Choose Gel-25 when you need a mask or appliance that holds its shape on a shelf or in storage, or when your mould requires a firmer pour to capture sharp undercuts.
Because Gel-25 is already firmer, you need less Smiths Prosthetic Deadener to reach a given softness: up to 100% (compared to up to 300% for Gel-10). That keeps your mix predictable and your batches consistent.
How to use PlatSil Gel-25
Add any silicone pigment to Part B before combining with Part A, so you have the full working time to blend the colour evenly. If you are using Smiths Prosthetic Deadener for extra flexibility, add it to Part A first, then combine both parts. Mix Part A and Part B in a 1:1 ratio by weight or volume until fully homogeneous, then pour or apply into your mould within the 5-minute working time. Leave to cure for approximately one hour before demoulding.
Pro tip: Warm your mould slightly before pouring to reduce surface bubbles and improve detail reproduction. For a clean 1:1 ratio every time, use Supercup Mixing Cups calibrated for dual-component pours.
Safety and removal
PlatSil Gel-25 is safe for skin contact once fully cured and complies with FDA food-contact regulations. Do not ingest. Wear black nitrile gloves size L or size M during mixing to avoid contaminating the silicone (skin oils can inhibit platinum-cure silicones).
Cured silicone appliances are removed with a dedicated prosthetics adhesive remover. Uncured silicone is cleaned from tools with isopropyl alcohol before it sets.
