The Ultimate FX Palette is the most comprehensive SFX creme colour set Ben Nye offers. The 18 colours are deliberately built around injury simulations: fresh cuts, dried blood, bruising, venous veins and skin discolouration. That makes this palette a ready-to-go foundation for any pro SFX kit.

Choose this palette when you're working on location and need speed. Adding a few drops of isopropyl alcohol to a colour produces a thin, translucent effect, ideal for venous veins and subtle under-skin discolouration. That sheer result isn't achievable with standard water-activated face paint.

How to use the Ben Nye Ultimate FX Palette

Apply the creme colours using a foam sponge, brush or spatula. Use the built-in mixing palette to blend shades before applying.

• Direct application: press colour onto skin or onto latex, gelatine or wax prosthetics using a sponge or brush
• Mixing and layering: combine colours on the mixing palette for custom shades and build up layers for depth
• Sheer alcohol effect: mix a drop of isopropyl alcohol into a colour for a translucent, under-skin vein effect

Pro tip: Build a bruise starting with Black & Blue as the base, blend Bruise over the edges and finish with a thin layer of Grey Purple for an older, healing look. For fresh wounds: Fresh Cut as the base colour, Dried Blood at the edges and Dark Crimson for depth.

Setting and removal

Set creme colours after application using Neutral Set Powder with a large powder brush or Powder Puff. For extra durability on long shoots or in warm conditions, follow up with Ben Nye Final Seal.

Remove the makeup with Ben Nye Quick Cleanse or Mehron Blank Canvas Remover. For heavier layers or where prosthetic adhesive has been used, loosen the edges first and follow with warm water and a gentle skin cleanser.
