Ben Nye Master Disaster Wheel
The Ben Nye Master Disaster Wheel is a compact crème makeup wheel for moulage, trauma simulation and SFX work. The six colours are specifically chosen to recreate cuts, bruises and damaged tissue with realistic accuracy.
- Crème formula (not water-activated), highly pigmented
- 6 trauma colours: Dark Crimson, Fresh Cut, Black & Blue, Blood Red, Blue, White
- Works on skin, latex, gelatine, wax, silicone and prosthetics
- Contents: 28g (1 oz)
- Suitable for film, theatre, SFX and first aid simulation
Which trauma and moulage effects can you create with this wheel?
The colour selection is built around realistic wound imagery. Fresh Cut and Blood Red form the base for lacerations and fresh wounds. Dark Crimson adds depth to darker blood tones, while Black & Blue and Blue work together to build up convincing bruising. White gives you pale surrounding tissue or a mixing base for subtle transitions.
This makes the wheel one of the few ready-made palettes that combines moulage and bruise work in one compact format. No need to hunt through separate pots to complete a trauma look.
When do you choose this wheel over individual crème colours?
Choose this wheel when you need to switch quickly between wound and bruise tones without opening multiple separate containers. The six colours are matched to each other, so blending works straight away without colour mismatch.
For first aid instructors, moulage specialists and on-set SFX artists the compact format is genuinely practical: everything you need for most standard trauma looks in one wheel.
How to use
Apply the crème makeup using a Mehron Latex Foam Sponge for soft stippled transitions, with your fingers for warm blending over larger areas, or a fine brush for sharp wound edges. The formula works directly on skin and over latex, gelatine, wax, silicone and prosthetics. For a more transparent, thinner consistency you can mix a small amount on a palette with 99% alcohol.
Pro tip: Start a laceration with a thin line of Fresh Cut as your base. Deepen the wound edges with Dark Crimson, add Blood Red for the fresh blood effect in the centre, and blend Black & Blue around the surrounding skin. Use White sparingly for pale tissue at the wound border.
Setting and removing
Crème makeup always needs setting powder to fix in place. Press the powder evenly over the makeup with a powder puff and brush away any excess with a loose brush. Once set, the layer stays put without smudging.
Remove with an oil-based makeup remover such as Ben Nye Quick Cleanse. Water and soap alone are not sufficient for crème/greasepaint formulas.
What can you use it for?
- Moulage simulations for first aid, BLS and medical training
- SFX work for film, television and theatre
- Halloween looks featuring wounds, bruises and injuries
- Haunted attractions and live events
- Stage makeup for trauma and conflict scenes
