Ben Nye Trauma Simulation Wheel
The Ben Nye Trauma Simulation Wheel (EW-7) is a compact crème makeup wheel by Ben Nye for simulating wounds, bruising and bleeding injuries. Its three targeted colours are specifically matched to realistic trauma effects for SFX, film and moulage training.
- Crème makeup (oil-based), not water-activated
- Highly pigmented, soft blendable formula
- 3 SFX colours: Dark Burgundy, Fire Red and Blue
- Contents: 28g / 1oz
- Works on skin, latex, gelatine, wax, silicone and prosthetics
What trauma and injury effects can you create with this wheel?
The colour selection is entirely focused on one thing: quick, convincing wound simulation. Dark Burgundy adds the depth of heavy bruising or dried blood. Fire Red captures fresh cuts and abrasions. Blue brings in the blue-purple discolouration typical of real blunt-force trauma.
Together the three colours cover what you need for first aid training scenarios, moulage sessions, film shoots and Halloween wound looks. No colours wasted, nothing missing.
When should you choose this wheel over a larger SFX palette?
Choose this wheel when you need trauma effects specifically and don't want to dig through twenty shades to find the right one. The tight three-colour edit means you work fast. Especially handy when you're working through multiple people in a training day or on set.
It also combines well with other Ben Nye Wheels. If you want more variety in wound effects, the Ben Nye FX Palette is a natural addition with extra SFX shades.
How to use it
Pick up a small amount of crème with a Mehron Latex Foam Sponge or your fingertip and stipple the colour onto the skin. This creates soft, layered transitions that read as genuine bruising rather than makeup. For sharp cut edges, use a fine detail brush. The crème formula blends easily with body heat, so a few seconds of working it in does the job.
Pro tip: Start with Blue as the base for the bruise zone, layer Dark Burgundy on top at the centre, then use Fire Red for the fresh blood colour at the wound edge. This gives you the colour gradient typical of real contusion injuries.
Setting and removing
Oil-based crème makeup always needs to be set with setting powder. Apply with a powder puff and tap off any excess with a powder brush. This keeps the wheel looking sharp for hours, even with movement or perspiration.
To remove, use an oil-based makeup remover or Ben Nye Quick Cleanse. Soap and water also works well as a basic option. The crème formula leaves no staining on the skin.
