What is an alcohol activated SFX palette?

Alcohol activated make-up is not activated with water but with cosmetic alcohol or a dedicated activator such as EBA Fuel. That means it adheres to surfaces where water-based face paint would slide off: foam latex, silicone, gelatine and fabric. Once applied and dry, the make-up is waterproof, transfer-resistant and stays put for hours - even under hot studio lighting.

Who is this palette for?

This palette is for anyone who needs to cover a tattoo, scar or skin discolouration professionally. Film and TV make-up artists use it daily on set - it replaces several individual products and will last for hundreds of looks. It also suits the advanced hobbyist who wants a waterproof, long-lasting result for cosplay, theatre or a full day at an event.

New to alcohol activated make-up? Start with thin washes and build up slowly. The pigments are strong, so less is more in the early layers.

What colours are in this palette?

The 10 colours are built around three functions: skin tones as a covering base (8 shades from light to deep, spanning warm, cool and neutral undertones) and colour correctors (2 shades that neutralise red and green undertones before you apply the covering layer). Use them individually or combined.

• N1 - lightest neutral skin tone, ideal for very fair complexions
• W1 - light warm skin tone with yellow undertone
• W3 - medium warm skin tone with yellow undertone
• W5 - deep warm skin tone with yellow undertone
• W9 - deepest warm skin tone for dark complexions
• C2 - light cool skin tone with red undertone
• C4 - medium cool skin tone with red undertone
• C5 - deep cool skin tone with red undertone
• Mauve - colour corrector for red and purple tattoos and skin discolouration
• Olive - colour corrector for yellow and green undertones in tattoos

How to use it

Activate the make-up with EBA Fuel Spray or 99.9% isopropyl alcohol on a dense stipple brush or sponge. Work in thin washes - start with the colour corrector (Mauve or Olive) and then build up with the matching skin tone. The make-up dries within seconds and is then waterproof.

Pro tip: Stipple Mauve over red tattoo ink and Olive over bluish-grey ink first. Then layer the matching skin tone (for example W3 or C4) over the correction layer in thin washes. Two to three washes stacked like this will make the tattoo disappear completely without the coverage looking cakey.

Skin safety and skin prep

The Encore formula uses cosmetic alcohol and FDA-compliant pigments. If you have sensitive skin, do a patch test on the inside of your elbow first. Avoid application on broken skin, eye mucous membranes and lips.

For extra adhesion and protection against rubbing, apply a thin layer of EBA ProSeal Spray or EBA H2O Seal before or after application.

Setting and removing

Alcohol activated make-up is intrinsically waterproof once dry - no extra fixative needed. To remove it at the end of the day you will need a dedicated remover. Water and soap alone will not do the job.

Individual pans are replaceable - no need to replace the whole palette when one colour runs out. Each pan is 38x38 mm (1.5x1.5 inch) and contains 3.5 g. FDA-compliant ingredients, made in Costa Mesa (California, USA), not tested on animals.
