What is an alcohol activated SFX palette?

Alcohol activated make-up is not activated with water but with cosmetic alcohol or a dedicated activator such as EBA Fuel. That means it adheres to surfaces where water-based face paint simply slides off: foam latex, silicone, gelatine and fabric. Once applied, the make-up is waterproof, transfer-resistant and stays put for hours - even under heavy film lighting or warm studio conditions.

Who is this palette for?

This palette is built for professional SFX artists, prostheticians and make-up designers working with foam latex or silicone appliances. The Flesh palette covers the vast majority of prosthetic colour-matching needs: from cool light tones (W-range) to warmer deeper shades (C-range), plus the adjusters needed to blend a prosthetic edge invisibly into living skin. For the advancing hobbyist learning prosthetic work, this palette replaces a handful of separate pots and travels with you for hundreds of looks.

New to alcohol activated make-up? Start with thin washes - a wash is a diluted, translucent layer - and build up gradually. The pigments are strong, so less is more.

What colours are in this palette?

The 10 colours are built around three functions: skin tone bases (4 shades for the foundation layer, from cool light to warm deep), skin tone adjusters and correctors (4 colours for fine-tuning undertones, smoothing prosthetic edges and adding subtle colour variation) and shading and accents (2 shades for depth and contrast). Use them individually or blend them together.

• C4 - cool medium skin tone, mid-layer or blending colour
• W3 - warm light skin tone, base for warmer complexions
• W5 - warm medium skin tone, deepens a warm base
• W9 - warm deep skin tone, for deeper skin tone matches
• MAUVE - cool pink adjuster, corrects overly yellow or warm tones
• BURNT SIENNA - warm red-brown adjuster, deepens and warms skin tones
• PRIME RED - bright red accent for blood undertones and capillary colouring
• PRIME YELLOW - bright yellow adjuster for warmth and smoother skin transitions
• CHARCOAL - deep grey shadow for wrinkle hollows, pores and depth accents

How to use it

Activate the make-up with EBA Fuel Spray or 99.9% isopropyl alcohol on a round brush or stipple brush. Work in thin washes - thin layers build more depth and life than a single thick coat. The make-up dries within seconds and is then waterproof.

Pro tip: Start with C2 or W3 as a matching base layer on the prosthetic. Blend MAUVE or BURNT SIENNA along the prosthetic edge to soften the colour transition into skin. Stipple PRIME RED subtly onto cheeks and the nose tip for capillary warmth. Finish with CHARCOAL for depth in hollows and wrinkle lines.

Skin safety and skin prep

The Encore formula is made with cosmetic-grade alcohol and FDA-compliant pigments. For sensitive skin: patch test on a small area inside the elbow first. Avoid application on broken skin, eye mucous membranes and lips.

For extra adhesion and protection against transfer, apply a thin layer of EBA ProSeal Spray or EBA H2O Seal before or after application.

Setting and removing

Alcohol activated make-up is intrinsically waterproof once dry - no additional fixative needed. To remove it at the end of the day you will need a dedicated remover. Water and soap alone will not work.
