What is an alcohol activated SFX palette?

Alcohol activated make-up is not activated with water but with cosmetic alcohol or a dedicated activator like EBA Fuel. That means it adheres to materials where water-based make-up simply slides off: foam latex, silicone, gelatine and fabric. Once applied and dry, the make-up is waterproof, transfer-resistant and stays in place for hours - even under heavy film lighting or warm studio conditions.

Who is this palette for?

This palette is built for SFX artists and make-up professionals who need all-round wound and skin effects, both directly on skin and on foam latex or silicone prosthetics. It replaces a large portion of your individual pots and holds up for hundreds of looks.

New to alcohol activated make-up? Start with thin washes - a wash is a diluted, translucent layer - and build up gradually. The pigments are strong, so less is more.

What colours are in this palette?

The 10 colours are built around three functions: primary mixing tones (6 base colours for the starting layer and colour mixing), blood and tissue colours (3 for fresh and dried blood effects and bruising) and skin discolouration (1 for subtle injury details). Use them individually or combine them freely.

How to use it

Activate the make-up with EBA Fuel Spray or 99.9% isopropyl alcohol on a round brush or stipple brush. Work in thin washes - thin layers create more depth than a single heavy application. The make-up dries within seconds and is waterproof from that point on.

Pro tip: Start a cut with PRIME RED as the base layer on the skin. Work DRIED BLOOD into the edges for depth. Add FRESH BLOOD at the deepest point for a wet, glistening effect. Use PRIME BLACK sparingly for the deepest shadow, and blend BRUISE RED with MAUVE for the discoloured skin surrounding the wound.

Skin safety and skin prep

The Encore formula uses cosmetic-grade alcohol and FDA-compliant pigments. For sensitive skin: do a patch test on the inside of the elbow first. Avoid application on broken skin, eye mucous membranes and lips.

For extra adhesion and protection against smearing, apply a thin layer of EBA ProSeal Spray or EBA H2O Seal before or after application.

Setting and removing

Alcohol activated make-up is intrinsically waterproof once dry - no additional setting product needed. To remove it at the end of the day, you need a dedicated remover. Water and soap alone won't do the job.
