Tinsley Transfers Gash 3D FX Transfer - Realistic Wound Prosthetic

The Tinsley Transfers Gash 3D FX Transfer is a self-adhesive 3D wound prosthetic for the arm, leg or chest, recreating a deep laceration with raw, open flesh edges. The technique was developed by Hollywood SFX artist Christien Tinsley, winner of the Academy Award for Technical Achievement in 2008. All you need is water to apply it and achieve film-quality results on your skin.

How do you apply the Gash? (step-by-step)

1. Prepare - Make sure the skin is clean, dry and free of oils or make-up. Ideally hair-free in the area. Gather a pair of scissors, a damp sponge or cloth and lukewarm water.
2. Activate the transfer - Remove the card from the packaging. Carefully peel the transparent effect-sheet away from the paper backing, then lay the sheet FX-side down back onto the adhesive transfer paper. This keeps the prosthetic firm and in shape. Smooth out any air bubbles.
3. Cut out - Carefully trim the transfer without cutting into the edge of the prosthetic.
4. Expose the adhesive side - Remove the transparent top layer to reveal the adhesive side.
5. Apply - Position the transfer on the arm, leg or chest and press firmly. Do not slide it once placed.
6. Transfer with water - Fully dampen the paper backing with your sponge or cloth. Wait approximately 30 seconds until the paper turns translucent.
7. Remove the backing - Gently slide or peel the paper away. Pat dry and press the edges down again for a seamless blend.
8. Finish - Complete the look with some make-up and a little fake blood for added depth and a convincing result.

Removal

1. Remove any make-up and blood residue with warm water and a cloth.
2. Lift one edge and roll the transfer gently off the skin. Remove any remaining adhesive with Mouldlife Life-Wipes or Ben Nye Remove-it All. Rinse the skin with water afterwards.

Common mistakes (and how to avoid them)

• Not using enough water - make sure the backing is fully soaked and translucent before peeling it away.
• Sliding the transfer after placing it - press down firmly straight away and do not reposition.
• Using too much fake blood - a subtle amount inside the wound opening looks far more convincing than overdoing it.

Safety and skin compatibility
