The Tinsley Transfers Big Bite 3D FX Transfer is a 3D bite wound prosthetic for the arm or upper body, created by Hollywood FX artist Christien Tinsley, winner of the Academy Award for Technical Achievement (2008) for the Tinsley Transfer technique. How do you apply Big Bite? (step-by-step)

1. Prep - Make sure the skin is clean, dry and free from oil or make-up. Ideally hair-free. Grab a pair of scissors, a damp sponge or cloth and lukewarm water.
2. Activate the transfer - Remove the card from the packaging. Gently peel the transparent effect sheet away from the paper backing, then lay the sheet FX-side down back onto the sticky transfer paper. This keeps the prosthetic firmly in shape. Smooth out any air bubbles.
3. Cut out - Trim the transfer carefully, without cutting into the edge of the prosthetic.
4. Expose the adhesive side - Remove the transparent top layer so the adhesive side is visible.
5. Position - Place the transfer onto the arm or upper body and press firmly. Do not slide it once placed.
6. Activate with water - Wet the paper backing thoroughly with your sponge or cloth. Wait about 30 seconds until the paper becomes translucent.
7. Remove the backing - Slowly peel or slide the paper away. Pat dry and press the edges down again for a seamless blend.
8. Finish - Complete the look with face paint and a little fake blood for extra depth and a convincing finish.

Removal

1. Remove excess blood and make-up with warm water and a cloth.
2. Lift one edge and gently roll the transfer away from the skin. Remove any adhesive residue with Mouldlife Life-Wipes or Ben Nye Remove-it All. Rinse the skin with water afterwards.

Common mistakes (and how to avoid them)

• Not using enough water - always soak the paper backing until it is fully translucent, otherwise it will not release cleanly.
• Sliding the transfer after placement - press it down in the right spot first time and leave it there.
• Overdoing the blood - a small amount of fake blood looks far more realistic than too much at once.
