Tinsley Transfers Small Gouge 3D FX Transfer - Realistic Wound Prosthetic
The Tinsley Transfers Small Gouge 3D FX Transfer is a self-adhesive 3D wound prosthetic from Hollywood FX artist Christien Tinsley, who received an Academy Award for Technical Achievement in 2008 for the Tinsley Transfer technique. It mimics a small gouged-out wound, as if a piece of skin has been torn away. Perfect for Halloween, theatre and cosplay - film quality on your skin, applied in minutes.
- Self-adhesive 3D wound prosthetic, water-only application
- Latex-free, made from cosmetic-grade materials
- Hyper-realistic effect with tissue-thin edges
- Stays firmly in place all evening or through a full shoot
- Made in the USA, Hollywood quality
How do you apply the Small Gouge? (step-by-step)
- Prepare - Make sure the skin is clean, dry and free from oil or make-up. Hair-free is ideal. Grab a pair of scissors, a damp sponge or cloth, and some lukewarm water.
- Activate the transfer - Remove the card from the packaging. Carefully peel the transparent effect-sheet away from the paper backing and place the sheet FX-side down back onto the adhesive transfer paper. This keeps the prosthetic firmly in shape. Smooth out any air bubbles.
- Cut out - Cut the transfer out carefully, without cutting into the edge of the prosthetic.
- Expose the adhesive side - Remove the transparent top layer so the adhesive side is visible.
- Apply - Position the transfer on the arm or leg and press down firmly. Do not slide it once placed.
- Transfer with water - Wet the paper backing thoroughly with your sponge or cloth. Wait about 30 seconds until the paper becomes translucent.
- Remove the backing - Carefully peel the paper away. Pat dry and press the edges down again for a seamless blend.
- Finishing touches - Complete the look with a little fake blood for extra depth and a convincing result.
Removal
- Remove make-up and blood residue with warm water and a cloth.
- Lift an edge and carefully roll the transfer off the skin. Remove any remaining adhesive with Mouldlife Life-Wipes or Remove-it All by Ben Nye. Cleanse the skin with water afterwards.
Common mistakes (and how to avoid them)
- Not enough water - Be generous with the water and give it time. A dry backing won't release the prosthetic properly.
- Sliding after placing - Position carefully before pressing down. The adhesive grabs immediately and cannot be repositioned.
- Too much fake blood - Less is more. A small drop in the right spot looks far more convincing than overdoing it.
