Tinsley Transfers Surgical Lips 3D FX Transfer - Realistic Wound Prosthetic
The Tinsley Transfers Surgical Lips 3D FX Transfer is a 3D prosthetic from Tinsley Transfers that creates a realistic surgical incision effect around the lips. The transfer technique behind it earned Christien Tinsley the Academy Award for Technical Achievement in 2008. Perfect for Halloween, theatre productions and horror photo shoots where you want film-quality results in minutes.
- Realistic surgical suture effect at the lips, full 3D
- Activated with water only - no glue or latex
- Latex-free, made from cosmetic-grade materials
- Hyperrealistic with tissue-thin edges
- Made in the USA, Hollywood quality
How do you apply the Surgical Lips? (step-by-step)
- Prepare - Make sure the skin around your lips is clean, dry and free of oil or make-up. Ideally hair-free. Have a pair of scissors, a damp sponge or cloth and lukewarm water to hand.
- Activate the transfer - Take the card out of the packaging. Carefully peel the transparent effect sheet away from the paper backing and lay it face-down (FX side down) back onto the adhesive transfer paper. This keeps the prosthetic firmly in shape. Smooth out any air bubbles.
- Cut to shape - Cut out the transfer accurately without cutting into the edge of the prosthetic.
- Expose the adhesive side - Remove the transparent top layer so the adhesive side becomes visible.
- Position - Place the transfer on or around the lips and press down firmly. Do not move it once it's in position.
- Transfer with water - Wet the paper backing completely with your sponge or cloth. Wait about 30 seconds until the paper turns translucent.
- Remove the backer - Gently pull the paper away. Pat dry and press the edges down again for a seamless blend.
- Finish - Finish with make-up and a little fake blood for extra depth and a convincing surgical result.
Removal
- Gently remove any make-up and blood residue with warm water and a cloth.
- Lift a corner and slowly peel the transfer away from the skin. Remove any remaining adhesive with Mouldlife Life-Wipes or Ben Nye Remove-it All. Cleanse the skin with water afterwards.
Common mistakes (and how to avoid them)
- Not using enough water - the paper must be fully translucent before you remove the backing.
- Sliding after positioning - place it correctly in one go and leave it. Precision matters even more around the lips.
- Applying too much fake blood at once - build it up in thin layers with a fine brush to keep control of the result.
