The Tinsley Transfers Capped 3D FX Transfer is a self-adhesive 3D wound prosthetic from Tinsley Transfers for Halloween, cosplay, theatre and film productions. The design simulates a caved-in skull with capped edges, created by Hollywood FX artist Christien Tinsley, winner of the Academy Award for Technical Achievement in 2008 for the Tinsley Transfer technique. How do you apply the Capped Transfer? (step-by-step)

1. Prepare - Make sure the skin is clean, dry and free of oil or make-up. Hair-free is preferable. Have a pair of scissors, a damp sponge or cloth and lukewarm water to hand.
2. Activate the transfer - Remove the card from the packaging. Carefully peel the transparent effect sheet away from the paper backing and place the sheet face down (FX side down) back onto the adhesive transfer paper. This keeps the prosthetic firm and in shape. Smooth out any air bubbles.
3. Cut out - Cut the transfer out carefully without cutting into the edge of the prosthetic.
4. Expose the adhesive - Remove the transparent top layer to reveal the adhesive side.
5. Position - Place the transfer on the forehead or crown and press down firmly. Do not shift it once positioned.
6. Transfer with water - Thoroughly wet the paper backing with your damp sponge or cloth. Wait approximately 30 seconds until the paper becomes translucent.
7. Remove the backer - Carefully slide or peel the paper away. Pat dry and press the edges down again for a seamless blend.
8. Finish - Finish with make-up and a little fake blood for extra depth and a convincing result.

Removal

1. Remove any make-up and blood residue with warm water and a cloth.
2. Lift a corner and gently roll the transfer away from the skin. Remove any remaining adhesive with Mouldlife Life-Wipes or Ben Nye Remove-it All. Rinse the skin with water afterwards.

Common mistakes (and how to avoid them)

• Not using enough water - make sure the backing is fully saturated and translucent before you peel it away.
• Shifting the transfer after placement - position carefully, press down firmly straight away and do not move it again.
• Using too much blood - a subtle amount around the capped edge gives a far more realistic result than overdoing it.
