Mustard Seed is a warm, yellowy shade primarily used for unpleasant, sickly effects. Think festering wounds, greenish zombie skin, or the yellowy discolouration around a bruise.
The colour also works well as an undertone in rotting flesh and corpse effects, blended sparingly with greener or greyer shades around it.
When should you choose Mustard Seed over a palette?
Already have an SFX palette with basic wound colours but missing that exact sickly yellow? A single pot of Mustard Seed is the smartest top-up. No need to invest in another full palette.

How to use it
Activate with a lightly dampened brush or sponge. The talc base absorbs water a little more slowly than glycerin-based paints, so use slightly more water than you normally would. It dries within seconds.
Pro tip: For a realistic festering wound, start with Fresh Cut or Bright Red as your base, then blend Mustard Seed outward along the edges and into the centre. The yellowish-green contrast makes the wound instantly more convincing.
Setting and removing
Set with Ben Nye Final Seal for longer wear, especially in warm conditions or for extended use. To remove, water and soap work fine, or use a gentle make-up remover.
