What bruise and wound effects can you create with Maroon?
Maroon sits right between dark red and burgundy, making it perfect for aged blood, deep bruises and wounds in a later healing stage. Think day-old cuts, or bruises shifting into the purple-brown phase.
For vampire looks, Maroon works well as a darker companion to a brighter red. It adds depth and keeps the look from looking too cartoonish.
When do you choose individual Maroon over a palette?
Go for a single pot of Maroon if you already have a base kit and just need a specific dark red for SFX accents. If you use it regularly in theatre or film work, a dedicated pot makes practical sense.

How to use it
Activate with a lightly damp brush or sponge. The talc base absorbs water slightly more slowly than glycerine face paint, so use a touch more water for a smooth application. It dries within seconds.
Pro tip: For an aged wound, start with Fresh Cut or Bright Red as your base, then build Maroon into the edges and centre, and finish with Black & Blue for depth. Three steps for a convincing multi-day wound.
Setting and removing
