Ben Nye Castor Sealer, 29ml
Ben Nye Castor Sealer is a liquid sealer by Ben Nye, designed specifically for sealing latex prosthetics and SFX appliances. You apply it before crème make-up or greasepaint, preventing pigment from soaking into the latex and causing discolouration. The 29ml bottle is the starter and travel size, ideal for SFX artists and make-up professionals who want a reliable flesje close at hand.
What is Ben Nye Castor Sealer?
Castor Sealer is a castor oil-based sealer you apply over latex prosthetics. It forms a protective film between the latex and your crème make-up, stopping pigment from absorbing into the material. The result is a smooth, neutral base layer ready for further make-up work.
Castor Sealer is designed specifically for latex prosthetics. Combine it with Ben Nye Liquid Latex for complete latex effects, from building the prosthetic to the final finish.
Why choose this sealer?
Designed for latex: Castor Sealer is not a general setting spray or fixative. It is a protective layer made specifically for latex materials. It seals the texture of the latex so make-up adheres correctly and looks even.
Prevents discolouration: Crème make-up and greasepaint can soak directly into latex without a sealer, leaving stains that are hard to remove and that affect the colour of the prosthetic. Castor Sealer blocks this absorption. Simple to apply: You apply it with a sponge or your fingertips, no specialist tools needed. After roughly ten minutes of drying time you can continue straight into your make-up application.
How to use the sealer
Step 1: Apply the prosthetic. Attach the latex prosthetic as usual, using latex adhesive or skin glue. Let the edges bond fully and blend them before you start sealing.
Step 2: Apply Castor Sealer. Pat a thin, even layer of Castor Sealer over the entire latex surface using a sponge or your fingertips. Cover all pores and texture in the latex evenly.
Step 3: Allow to dry. Wait approximately ten minutes before applying crème make-up or greasepaint. The sealer must be completely dry before you add the next layer.
Pro tip from Linda: Seal the latex prosthetic fully with Castor Sealer before you reach for any crème make-up. Without this step, crème pigment can soak into the latex and leave stains that are difficult to remove even after cleaning.
Removal
Remove the latex prosthetic and the Castor Sealer layer by peeling off. For any remaining make-up residue on the skin, use Ben Nye Hydra Cleanse or Ben Nye Quick Cleanse, then rinse with lukewarm water and a mild soap.
