Acrylic One Thixotropic A, 0.25 kg
Acrylic One Thixotropic A is a thickening additive for the A1 acrylic resin mix, designed to transform the liquid mixture into a gel-like consistency. This lets you apply stable gelcoats that stay in place on vertical surfaces and angled walls - essential for moulds, prosthetic shells and props where the material needs to build up without running or sagging.
- Thickener for A1 acrylic resin to gelcoat consistency
- Maximum 2% addition by total weight of A1 mix
- No effect on working time (20-25 minutes remains intact)
- Prevents sagging on vertical and angled surfaces
- Small 0.25 kg size - ideal for testing and small-scale projects
What is Acrylic One Thixotropic A?
Thixotropic A is a thixotropic agent that increases the viscosity of the A1 mix without affecting curing time or mechanical properties. You add it to the A1 Liquid before mixing, so the thickener is evenly incorporated into the mass.
The result is a thicker, spreadable mix that stays where you put it. That makes Thixotropic A the right choice for applications where you want to brush, spatula or build up material rather than pour.
When to use Thixotropic A?
Use Thixotropic A when you want to apply a gelcoat as the first layer inside a mould - that first layer determines the surface quality of your finished piece. Without a thickener, the mix runs out of corners and off vertical walls before it cures.
It also works well for building up thick layers on props, finishing EPS objects and any application where you need to apply material with a brush or spatula without it running. The 0.25 kg size is ideal for a test run or small project - so you can dial in the right dosage for your mould before scaling up to Thixotropic A 1 kg.
How to use Thixotropic A?
Add Thixotropic A to the A1 Liquid before incorporating the A1 Powder. The maximum dosage is 2% of the total weight of your A1 mix. Start low - often 0.5-1% is already enough for a firm gelcoat. Always weigh accurately and never exceed 2%, or you risk losing the workability of the mix.
Pro tip: Make a test mix of 100 g total (33 g A1 Liquid + 67 g A1 Powder + 1-2 g Thixotropic A) to calibrate the right consistency before committing to a larger batch. This way you know exactly how much thickener your mould needs.
Combining with other Acrylic One additives
Thixotropic A combines well with ATP Powder for an extra-thick, filler-like consistency when you need to repair or fill larger gaps. Combining with Accelerator is possible, but keep in mind that faster curing leaves you less time to smooth the thickened material.
Never combine Accelerator and Retarder in the same mix. Thixotropic A has no effect on working time, so if you want more time to work, combine it with Retarder rather than Accelerator.
