Acrylic One Retarder is an additive for the A1 acrylic resin system that extends the working time from the standard 20-25 minutes to 30-45 minutes or more. You add it to the A1 Liquid before mixing, giving you more time when working on large or complex objects where you cannot rush.

What is Acrylic One Retarder?

Retarder is a modifier for the A1 system that slows the curing reaction. This keeps the mix workable for longer, without affecting the mechanical properties of the finished piece.

It is not a replacement for A1 Liquid or A1 Powder, but a measurable additive. Use it only when you need more time than the standard working window allows.

When to use Retarder?

Use Retarder when casting large objects or support moulds where you need to process a bigger batch of A1 in one go. It is also useful in warm conditions, when curing speeds up beyond the standard 20-25 minutes.

Choose Retarder when working on complex prosthetics or props that require careful positioning, laminating, or applying multiple layers in a single session. The standard working time is simply too short for that kind of work.

How to use Retarder?

Add Retarder to the A1 Liquid before introducing the A1 Powder. Dose a maximum of 2% of the total mix weight. Always weigh the amount on a precision scale - never estimate by eye.

Pro tip: Start at 1% Retarder and increase to 2% only when you know the session will be long. Less is better if you know the workload: too much Retarder can delay curing unnecessarily and slow down production.

Combining with other Acrylic One additives

Retarder and Accelerator must never be combined in the same mix. They counteract each other and produce unpredictable results.

Retarder can be combined with Diluent for a thinner mix with extended working time, or with Thixotropic A for a thicker gel coat that stays open longer. Always follow A1 Academy dosing guidelines.
