Acrylic One Diluent is a viscosity-reducing additive from Active Composite Technologies for the A1 acrylic resin system. Adding Diluent to the A1 Liquid makes the mix thinner and more fluid, which is essential for casting into complex moulds and applying by spray. This is the 1 kg production size, suited to larger projects and regular use.

What is Acrylic One Diluent?

Diluent is a liquid additive you add to the A1 Liquid before mixing in the powder. It lowers the viscosity of the resin mix, making it easier to cast into detailed or narrow moulds and to spray with a spray gun. It does not replace the A1 Liquid or A1 Powder.

Use Diluent only where the standard viscosity is too high for your application. Working time of 20-25 minutes may vary slightly depending on the dosage used.

When to use Diluent?

Choose Diluent when casting A1 into moulds with fine details or narrow channels that the standard mix cannot reach easily. It also helps when spraying with a high-pressure or low-pressure spray gun, giving you a more even surface. For structural support moulds or spatula-applied layers, Diluent is generally not required.

Pro tip: Start at the lowest effective dosage, around 2-3%, and test on a small sample. Only add more if the flow is still insufficient. Staying well below the 5% maximum preserves the full mechanical strength of the cured material.

How to use Diluent?

Add Diluent to the A1 base mix at the A1 Liquid stage, before adding the A1 Powder. Weigh the Diluent carefully: never exceed 5% of the total mix weight (Liquid and Powder combined). Stir the Diluent into the Liquid until homogeneous, then add the Powder and continue mixing with the High Shear Mixing Blade 65mm.

Always wear protective gloves when weighing and mixing to avoid skin contact. Work in a well-ventilated space.

Combining with other Acrylic One additives

It is best not to combine Diluent with Accelerator 1 kg or Retarder 1 kg unless you fully understand the combined effects. Combining Diluent with Thixotropic A 1 kg has opposing effects on viscosity and is not recommended. ATP Powder 1 kg can be combined, but will partially offset the viscosity reduction.
