What is an alcohol activated SFX palette?

Alcohol activated make-up is not activated with water but with cosmetic alcohol or a dedicated activator like EBA Fuel. This means it adheres to surfaces where water-based face paint simply slides off: foam latex, silicone, gelatine and fabric. Once applied, the make-up is waterproof, transfer-resistant and stays in place for hours - even under hot studio lights or a long day on set.

The 5 colours give you enough to paint fake tattoos, from simple line work to colour fills. The kit takes the guesswork out of sourcing individual shades and is ready to go straight away.

New to alcohol activated make-up? Start with thin washes - a wash is a diluted, translucent layer - and build up gradually. The pigments are strong, so less really is more. Expect a few practice sessions to get comfortable with thin layering and stipple technique.

What colours are in this palette?

The 5 colours are built around two functions: ink colour as base (1 shade for lines and outlines) and primary mixing colours (4 colours for mixed shades and colour fills). Use them individually or blend them together.

• Black Ink - deep black for tattoo lines and outlines
• Red - primary red for warm tones
• Blue - primary blue for cool tones and mixed colours
• Yellow - primary yellow for green and orange mixes
• Henna Brown - warm brown for henna-style tattoo looks

How to use it

Activate with EBA Fuel Spray or 99.9% isopropyl alcohol on a fine liner brush. Work in thin washes - thin layers give you far more control over intensity than one thick application. The make-up dries within seconds and is then waterproof.

Pro tip: Start with Black Ink for outlines and let them dry before filling in colour. Mix Red and Yellow for orange fills, or Blue and Yellow for green. Henna Brown works well as a base for tribal and mandala-style fake tattoos with a warm, aged look.

Skin safety and skin prep

The Encore formula is made with cosmetic alcohol and FDA-compliant pigments. For sensitive skin: patch test on a small area of your inner elbow first. Avoid application on broken skin, eye mucous membranes and lips.

For extra adhesion and protection against rubbing, apply a thin layer of EBA ProSeal Spray or EBA H2O Seal before or after application.

Setting and removing

Alcohol activated make-up is intrinsically waterproof once dry - no extra fixative needed. To remove it at the end of the day you need a dedicated remover. Water and soap alone won't do the job.
