Encore SLIM Alcohol Activated Palette - Bruise

The Encore SLIM Alcohol Activated Palette - Bruise is a compact starter kit by European Body Art for creating realistic bruises and contusions. The five colours cover every stage of a bruise: from fresh contusion to yellowing and healing discolouration.

The SLIM format is the entry point into the Encore range - more accessible than the larger palettes, but using the same professional alcohol-activated formula. Browse all Encore Alcohol Activated palettes for other themes.

  • 5 alcohol-activated colours covering all bruise stages
  • Waterproof once dry, adheres to skin, foam latex and silicone prosthetics
  • Complete starter kit: activator, brush and sponge included
  • Activate with included activator or 99.9% isopropyl alcohol
  • FDA-compliant ingredients, made in Costa Mesa (California, USA)

What is an alcohol activated SFX palette?

Alcohol activated make-up is not activated with water but with cosmetic alcohol or a dedicated activator such as EBA Fuel. This means it adheres to materials that water-based face paint simply slides off: foam latex, silicone, gelatine and fabric. Once applied and dry, the make-up is waterproof, transfer-resistant and stays put for hours - even under heavy film lighting or warm studio conditions.

Who is this palette for?

This palette suits SFX beginners who want to learn alcohol-activated make-up, and professionals looking for a compact bruise kit to take on location. The SLIM format keeps things simple: everything you need is included from day one.

New to alcohol activated make-up? Start with thin washes - a diluted, translucent layer - and build up gradually. The pigments are concentrated, so less is more. Expect a few practice sessions with stippling and layering before it looks truly convincing.

What colours are in this palette?

The five colours are built around two functions: fresh contusion colours (2 shades for the acute phase immediately after impact) and discolouration and healing stages (3 shades for the transition to yellow and olive-green as the bruise heals). Use them separately or layered together.

  • Bruise Red - fresh red discolouration at acute trauma sites
  • Contusion - deep blue-purple shade for the core of a fresh bruise
  • Bruise Purple - riper purple tone for the transition zone
  • Nicotine Stain - yellow-brown shade for healing edges and older bruising
  • Olive Tone - yellow-green shade for the outer healing margin and aged contusion

How to use it

Activate the make-up with the included activator or 99.9% isopropyl alcohol on a round brush or stipple brush. Work in thin washes - thin layers create more depth than one heavy coat. The make-up dries within seconds and is then waterproof.

Pro tip: Start with Bruise Red and Contusion at the core of the bruise. Blend Bruise Purple in a wide ring around it. Work the outer edge with Nicotine Stain and Olive Tone for the healing phase. Stipple all transitions with a dry sponge for a realistic skin texture.

Skin safety and skin prep

The Encore formula uses cosmetic alcohol and FDA-compliant pigments. For sensitive skin: patch-test on the inside of your elbow first. Avoid applying to broken skin, eye mucous membranes and lips.

For extra adhesion and protection against transfer, apply a thin layer of EBA ProSeal Spray or EBA H2O Seal before or after application.

Setting and removing

Alcohol activated make-up is intrinsically waterproof once dry - no additional fixative needed. To remove it at the end of the day, you need a dedicated remover. Water and soap alone will not do the job.

  • EBA Unveil - alcohol-free, hydrating remover for sensitive skin and the face
  • EBA Vapore - alcohol-based remover for quick full removal, including on prosthetics
  • Mouldlife Life-Wipes - make-up remover wipes that also remove skin adhesives such as Pros-Aide (Mouldlife product, not EBA)

What can you use it for?

  • Film, TV and professional SFX make-up
  • Theatre and stage productions with long performance runs
  • Prosthetic work on foam latex and silicone
  • Realistic bruises and contusions across all healing stages
  • Skin discolouration for trauma simulations and medical training
  • Cosplay and character transformations
  • Halloween and horror looks where you want to go beyond standard face paint
