What is an alcohol activated SFX palette?

Alcohol activated make-up is activated not with water but with cosmetic alcohol or a dedicated activator such as EBA Fuel. That means it adheres to surfaces where water-based face paint slides off: foam latex, silicone, gelatine and fabric. Once applied it is waterproof, transfer-resistant and stays put for hours - even under heavy film lights or in warm studio conditions.

Who is this palette for?

This palette is built for professional make-up artists who work on the move and need a complete skin tone spectrum to hand. Think colour-matching on set, blending prosthetics across different complexions or character work where subtle tonal differences make all the difference. It replaces a large collection of individual pots and holds up for hundreds of looks.

New to alcohol activated make-up? Start with thin washes - a wash is a diluted, translucent layer - and build gradually. The pigments are strong, so less is more.

What colours are in this palette?

The 12 colours are built around three functions: warm skin tones (4 shades from light to deep warm), cool skin tones (4 shades from light to deep cool) and neutral and deep accents (4 for deeper complexions and character adjustments). Use them individually or blended together.

• W1 - warm light skin tone, ideal as a starting layer
• W2 - warm mid tone for base and blending
• W3 - warm medium-deep tone for richer complexions
• W5 - deep warm tone for dark skin tones and contouring
• C2 - cool light skin tone for pale and pink undertones
• C4 - cool mid tone for neutral pale complexions
• C5 - cool medium-deep tone for cool character skin tones
• N1 - neutral skin tone for smoothing and transition layers
• Black Coral - deep dark skin tone with cool undertone
• Ebony - very deep skin tone for matching darker complexions
• Espresso - warm deep brown for rich dark skin tones
• W9 - warm deep dark tone for colour matching and shadow detail

How to use it

Activate the make-up with EBA Fuel Spray or 99.9% isopropyl alcohol on a round brush or stipple brush. Work in thin washes - thin layers build more depth than one thick application. The make-up dries within seconds and is then waterproof.

Pro tip: Start with W1 or C2 as a light base on the prosthetic. Mix W2 and C4 for the transition zone to the skin. Use W5 or Black Coral for deeper complexion areas and finish with Ebony or Espresso for shadow in recesses and edges.

Skin safety and skin prep

The Encore formula uses cosmetic alcohol and FDA-compliant pigments. For sensitive skin: patch test on a small area inside the elbow first. Avoid applying to broken skin, eye mucous membranes and lips.

For extra adhesion and protection against rubbing, apply a thin layer of EBA ProSeal Spray or EBA H2O Seal before or after application.

Setting and removing

Alcohol activated make-up is intrinsically waterproof once dry - no extra fixative needed. To remove at the end of the day you need a dedicated remover. Water and soap alone will not do the job.
