EBA Transfusion Blood Dark Blood, 60ml
EBA Transfusion Blood Dark Blood is a professional film blood by European Body Art, formulated on a cellulose base for dead and undead characters, ageing wounds and venous blood effects. Unlike syrup-based fake blood it dries quickly, stays put and does not smudge after application. The dark tone with brown and blue undertones gives this blood its distinctive deep colour - exactly what you need for corpse effects, zombie looks and post-mortem scenes. Part of the EBA Transfusion Blood range.
- Dark blood with brown and blue undertones - for dead or undead characters
- Cellulose formula, syrup- and sorbitol-free
- Waterproof, transfer-proof, fast drying
- Holds shape for drips, drops and deep wound effects
- 60ml bottle (2 oz), designed and produced in Costa Mesa, USA by European Body Art
What makes Transfusion Blood different from other film blood?
Most film blood formulas are syrup- or sorbitol-based. They stick, run, smear and need constant touch-ups - exactly what you do not want on a long shoot day. Transfusion Blood breaks with that formula. The cellulose base dries after application to a high-gloss wet look that does not tack, does not smudge and does not transfer.
Once dry, the blood stays exactly where you put it. Drips hold their shape, deep wounds keep their texture and splatter stays sharply defined. For film, theatre and haunted houses you can work without constant touch-ups.
How to apply Dark Blood
Apply Dark Blood directly from the bottle using a brush, sponge or dropper. Different tools create different effects:
- Ben Nye Mini Splatter Brush for realistic blood spatters and splatter patterns
- FBFX duo-fibre stipple brush for wound texture and depth
- A fine detail brush for sharp drips, cut effects and venous blood streaks along veins
Pro tip: Build Dark Blood up in layers for maximum depth. Start with a thin base layer as an undertone inside the wound, then add thicker drops for dimension. Mix a drop of Dark Blood with Scab Tone around the wound edges for a convincing discoloured crust - that aged-blood effect you simply cannot get with brighter colours.
How long does it last and how to remove it
Dark Blood lasts 24 to 72 hours on skin, depending on placement and friction. Setting is not required - the cellulose formula dries to a lasting result on its own. Removal does require the right approach. By situation:
- On skin: Start with EBA Vapore 60ml - the official EBA remover. Spray or dab Vapore onto the blood layer and leave for 30-60 seconds so the cellulose releases. Then gently dab with a cotton pad or soft cloth. Do not rub - dabbing dissolves more than scrubbing.
- Residual colour after Vapore: For remaining discolouration on skin: warm water with mild soap, applied by dabbing. A faint reddish-brown shadow may linger on fair skin - this fades within a few hours.
- On fabric or clothing: Rinse immediately with cold water - warm water sets the stain. Then treat with stain remover or detergent before washing.
- Around eyes or on sensitive skin: Avoid alcohol-based remover near the eyes. Use mild soap and water or a cleansing oil instead.
- On latex or silicone prosthetics: Vapore works here too, but allow 1-2 minutes for deeper layers to release.
Combine with other SFX palettes for complete wound looks
For realistic zombie and corpse make-up, combine Dark Blood with European Body Art's Encore Alcohol Activated palettes:
- Encore Injury palette for bruises, contusions and skin discolouration around the wound
- Encore Tormented palette for haunt FX and horror themes
- Encore Autopsy palette (Bruce Spaulding Fuller) for corpse and post-mortem effects
Compare with the other Transfusion colours
The Transfusion Blood range has four colours, each for a different blood phase:
- Bright Blood - fresh arterial, vivid red (nosebleeds, cut wounds)
- The Blood - deep red medium-dark (heavy bleeding, the signature EBA blood)
- Dark Blood - dark with brown and blue undertones (dead or undead characters, older wounds)
- Scab Tone - deep brown scab colour (blood crusts, healed wounds)

Safety and storage
Designed for ages 14 and over. Avoid application near the mouth, eyes, nose and ears. Dark Blood may cause temporary discolouration on skin and can stain clothing - work in old clothes or on protected sets.
For best adhesion, clean the skin with 70% isopropyl alcohol beforehand, avoid lotions and oils on the application area, and pat dry with a towel (do not rub). Store the bottle tightly closed in a cool, dry place.
