The Tinsley Transfers Tattoo Stitched Trauma FX is a 2D tattoo transfer featuring life-like stitches, created for Halloween, theatre and film productions. It was developed by Christien Tinsley, Hollywood SFX artist and winner of the Academy Award for Technical Achievement (2008) for the Tinsley Transfer technique. How do you apply the Stitched Trauma FX? (step-by-step)
- Prepare - Make sure your skin is clean, dry and free of oil or make-up. Have a pair of scissors, a damp sponge or cloth and lukewarm water to hand.
- Cut out - Cut the transfer out generously following the outer edge of the design.
- Remove the top layer - Carefully peel off the transparent protective film to expose the adhesive side.
- Apply + activate - Place the tattoo adhesive-side down on your arm, leg or chest and press firmly. Dampen the paper backing completely with your wet sponge and wait about 30 seconds until the paper turns translucent.
- Remove paper + finish - Slide the paper away carefully. The tattoo stays behind as a detailed print on your skin. Finish with a little fake blood for extra impact.
Removal
- Remove any blood residue with warm water and a cloth.
- Lift an edge and roll the transfer gently away from the skin. Remove any adhesive residue with Mouldlife Life-Wipes or Ben Nye Remove-it All. Rinse the skin with water afterwards.
Common mistakes (and how to avoid them)
- Pulling the paper too early - Wait the full 30 seconds until the backing is completely translucent. Pulling too soon can tear or lift the design.
- Not pressing the transfer down firmly enough - Press across the entire surface, including the edges, straight after placing. Loose edges look obvious and peel faster.
- Too much fake blood on top - A small amount of fake blood along the stitches creates the most convincing effect. Overdoing it hides the detail of the stitches themselves.
