Ben Nye Grime FX Ash Powder 25gr
Ben Nye Grime FX Ash is an ultra-fine effects powder from Ben Nye for realistically recreating ash, dust and charred material on skin, hair, clothing and props. The ash-grey shade is designed for SFX work where you need a corpse-like, burnt or long-dead appearance.
- Ultra-fine effects powder, not face paint
- Ash grey - for burnt, corpse and cremation effects
- Apply dry or wet - both methods work
- Suitable for skin, hair, clothing and prosthetics
- Contents: 25 grams
What corpse and burn looks can you create with Ash?
The grey tone of Ash is exactly what you need for burnt skin, corpse pallor or aged bone. Think of a zombie who has been in the ground for a while, a burn victim in a Halloween attraction, or a ghost look where the skin appears to have faded away.
The powder adheres well over layers of face paint, prosthetics and even directly on clothing or hair - so you can build a fully committed, grimy look using one material across the whole costume.
When do you choose Ash over a regular make-up colour?
Face paint gives you colour. Grime FX Ash gives you texture and colour at the same time - the fine powder particles deposit a realistic, weathered layer that is difficult to achieve with paint alone. Choose Ash when you want a look to feel genuinely soiled, burnt or dusty in surface quality, not just in colour.
It is also the right choice when you need a quick dust layer over an existing look with no extra tools. No water, no activation - just dip a brush and apply.
How to use it
Method 1 (dry): use a powder brush or sponge and stipple the powder directly on skin, hair or clothing for a subtle ash layer. Method 2 (wet): work with a slightly damp brush or mix with a drop of water, glycerine or Mehron Mixing Liquid for a more intense colour that adheres better. Build up in thin layers for the most realistic result.
Pro tip: Apply Ash as a final step over an existing make-up look, including prosthetics or latex. It blurs the edge between make-up and skin so the effect reads as one. Stipple it dry around the edges of wounds or burn effects for a realistic ash border.
Setting and removing
Ash applied dry needs no fixative. If you need it to last longer on skin, a light mist of fixative spray will help. Remove easily with soap and water, or use a gentle make-up remover if you have applied it over paint or adhesive.
What can you use it for?
- Burnt skin and body looks for film, TV and theatre
- Zombie and corpse looks with an ash and dust layer
- Ghost effects with a faded, weathered skin tone
- Halloween haunts and scare maze characters
- Fire, collapse and emergency response simulations
- Dusting hair, clothing and props for a fully integrated look
