What pro SFX effects can you create with Grit?

Grit is the darkest shade in the Grime FX range and is built for heavy soiling: trench warfare soldiers, miners, collapsed building scenarios and gritty street scenes. The coarser texture adds a three-dimensional quality that flatter powders can't match.

It holds up well on camera at close range, which makes it a firm favourite on SFX film and TV sets where subtler powders tend to disappear under lights.

When should you choose Grit over the other Grime FX shades?

Choose Grit when you need a heavy, dark soiled look. For a lighter, dusty finish Plains Dust is the better pick. For a rocky grey effect Stone works better as a base or blend.

How to use it

Method 1 (dry): brush or stipple the powder onto skin, hair or clothing using a powder brush, sponge or your fingers for a subtle matte dust layer. Method 2 (wet): apply with a lightly damp brush or mix with a drop of water, glycerine or Mehron Mixing Liquid for deeper colour and better adhesion. Build up in thin layers for the most realistic result.

Pro tip: For a convincing trench soldier, apply Grit dry into the hair and onto clothing first, then switch to the wet method on the cheeks and hands for a darker, more saturated finish on exposed skin.

Setting and removing

Grime FX Grit doesn't require a fixing spray. It sits well on clothing and hair without setting. On skin you can dust or lightly brush off any excess. Removal is straightforward with water and a mild soap.
