What SFX wounds and skin effects can you create with this wax?

The Dark tint has a deeper tone that blends into darker skin tones or character builds where you want a raw, already-coloured scar. You can sculpt realistic scars, fresh cuts, burn distortions, bone-through-skin effects and more, all directly on the skin without any casting equipment.

Because the colour is already close to darker skin, you need far less base make-up to blend the edges seamlessly. That saves time, especially during long shoot days or busy Halloween events.

When do you choose Scar Wax Dark over the other shades?

Choose the Dark shade when your character has a darker complexion, or when you want the wax itself to read as an already-raw, pigmented wound without heavy colour correction. For fair skin use Scar Wax Light; for mid-tone skin use Scar Wax Medium.

Kies this shade if you want to skip an extra layer of colour correction and get straight to sculpting the wound detail. It works just as well as a base for zombie looks and horror character builds where a deeper, bruised undertone suits the design.

How to use the wax

Step 1: soften the wax. Scrape a small piece from the pot and knead it briefly between your fingers until soft. Don't overwork it - wax that gets too warm becomes sticky and harder to control.

Step 2: apply Spirit Gum (optional). For extra hold, apply a thin layer of Mehron Spirit Gum or Mehron Spirit Gum Mat to the skin where the wax will sit. Let it tack off for a few seconds before pressing the wax down.

Step 3: sculpt the shape. Press the wax gently onto the skin and work it into the wound shape with your fingers or a Stainless Steel Spatula. A tiny amount of petroleum jelly on your tool prevents the wax from sticking to it. Step 4: seal and colour. Dust with Mehron Setting Powder to remove the shine and tackiness, then apply make-up on top. Colour the wax with cream make-up, water-activated face paint or alcohol make-up to match the skin tone or character. Pro tip from Linda: for blood effects inside an open wound, add a thin layer of Mehron Coagulated Blood Gel into the sculpted cut after colouring. For dripping blood, combine with Mehron Stage Blood.

Setting and removing

The combination of Spirit Gum and Setting Powder keeps the wax firmly in place throughout long stage days or photo shoots.

To remove: scrape off the bulk of the wax with your Stainless Steel Spatula. Dissolve any remaining Spirit Gum with Mehron Spirit Gum Remover on a cotton pad, then cleanse the skin with warm water and soap.
