What's in this kit?

The set contains two professional Mehron products used together to build and seal wound effects:

• Mehron Extra Flesh (9 g): a fibrous pulp-resin material that becomes pliable through hand warmth and is built up in layers on the skin. For large burns, abrasion trauma, flesh tears and stretched skin that you can't achieve with classic scar wax.
• Mehron Fixative "A" Sealer (4 ml): a liquid solvent-based sealer with an applicator brush, applied over the modelled Extra Flesh to seal the pulp. This allows you to apply make-up on top without the material smearing.

The combination of Extra Flesh and Fixative "A" Sealer is the standard SFX workflow for 3D wound effects. This kit gives you both components in one go, saving you separate orders.

How to use this kit

Step 1: prepare the skin. Cleanse the skin thoroughly to remove all skin oils, dirt and make-up. For extra adhesion, apply a thin layer of Mehron Spirit Gum to the skin and allow it to dry until it feels tacky.

Step 2: prepare the Extra Flesh. Scrape a small piece of Extra Flesh from the pot and knead it briefly between your fingers until it becomes pliable. Tear the material into the rough shape you need, with ragged edges for a natural wound look.

Step 3: model the shape. Press the Extra Flesh gently onto the skin and build up the effect in layers. Use a Stainless Steel Spatula to smooth edges and blend the transition into the skin. Step 4: seal with Fixative "A" Sealer. Allow the Extra Flesh to air dry for a few minutes. Then apply a thin layer of Fixative "A" Sealer with the applicator brush to seal the pulp. Allow the sealant layer to dry for 1 to 2 minutes. Step 5: finish with make-up and blood. Finish the effect with cream make-up or face paint to match the skin tone. Add blood effects with Mehron Coagulated Blood Gel for wound texture or Mehron Stage Blood for dripping blood. Pro tip from Linda: for extreme mutilation effects like a torn-off piece of skin, combine two layers of Extra Flesh with pieces of tissue in between. Let each layer dry before adding the next, and only seal with Fixative "A" Sealer once the entire effect is built up. This gives you depth without the material tearing along the tissue fibres.

Setting and removing

The combination of Spirit Gum as a base and Fixative "A" Sealer as a topcoat keeps Extra Flesh firmly in place, even during long stage days, photoshoots and film shoots.

First carefully scrape away the bulk of the Extra Flesh with a Stainless Steel Spatula. Remove remaining Fixative "A" Sealer and adhesive with Mehron Spirit Gum Remover on a cotton pad. Cleanse the skin afterwards with warm water and soap, and apply a moisturising cream to restore the skin's natural moisture balance.
