Mehron Fixative "A" Sealer is a professional liquid protective coating you apply over scar wax, Extra Flesh and skin-applied tattoos. The clear, fast-drying formula seals soft modelling wax against smudging, fingerprints and smearing under hot stage lights or during long shooting days. This 4 ml bottle with built-in applicator brush in the cap is the starter size for occasional SFX projects, theatre productions and body-art tattoo fixation.

What does Mehron Fixative "A" Sealer do?

Mehron Fixative "A" Sealer is a solvent-based liquid sealer that dries to a flexible, transparent film. You apply it over prosthetic make-up such as scar wax or Extra Flesh to seal the soft modelling clay, so you can apply make-up on top without the wax smearing or leaving marks on your fingers.

The seal layer also works as a topcoat over painted skin tattoos, body art and alcohol make-up: it prevents make-up from transferring onto costumes and keeps everything in place for hours. For Mehron Bald Cap and latex prosthetics, use Mehron Castor Sealer instead, which is specifically developed for latex surfaces.

When do you choose Fixative A?

Seals soft wax modelling: scar wax and Extra Flesh stay tacky without a protective finish and will smear. Fixative A forms a clear film over the wax so you can apply cream or water-based make-up on top without the wax shifting.

Fast-drying and flexible: the layer dries within a few minutes and remains supple, moving with facial expressions and muscle movements. No cracking or bubbling when talking or laughing. Multi-purpose: also suitable as a topcoat over body-art tattoos, alcohol make-up and airbrush work. Prevents make-up from transferring onto clothing and costumes during stage performances or events.

How to use Fixative A

Step 1: model the wax. First apply your Mehron Scar Wax or Extra Flesh to the skin and model the desired shape with your fingers or a Stainless Steel Spatula.

Step 2: powder (optional). Lightly dust the wax with Mehron Setting Powder to remove the worst of the tackiness. Remove excess powder with a soft powder brush.

Step 3: apply Fixative A. Dip the applicator brush briefly into the bottle and apply a thin layer of Fixative A over the modelled wax. Work from the edges inward so that the transition to the skin is sealed as well. Step 4: allow to dry. Leave the seal layer to dry for approximately 1 to 2 minutes until it no longer feels tacky. For extra durability you can apply a second thin layer once the first has dried. Step 5: finish with make-up. Work into the dry Fixative layer with cream make-up, water-based make-up or alcohol make-up to match the wound to the skin tone and add blood effects. Pro tip from Linda: for larger wax pieces or effects used on consecutive days, apply two thin layers of Fixative A with 2 minutes drying time between each coat. The double seal layer keeps the wax perfectly in place even during warm summer theatre runs and long film shooting days.

Safety and storage

• Flammable: Fixative A contains solvents and is flammable. Keep away from open flames, sparks and hot surfaces.
• Close tightly after use to prevent evaporation and preserve the product life of the bottle.
• Avoid contact with eyes. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
• Do not use on broken or irritated skin.
• Store in a cool, dry place out of reach of children.

Removing

First gently scrape away the bulk of the wax with a Stainless Steel Spatula. Remove remaining Fixative A and wax with Mehron Spirit Gum Remover on a cotton pad. Press the remover along the edges, leave for 10 to 20 seconds and wipe away. Clean the skin afterwards with warm water and soap.
