Ben Nye Spray Blood, 60 ml

Ben Nye Spray Blood is a liquid fake blood in spray form from Ben Nye, trusted worldwide by make-up artists in theatre, film and SFX. The bright red colour replicates fresh arterial blood and stays fluid, so it runs and drips naturally. The 60 ml bottle with spray pump is the pro size: ideal for longer productions, theatre seasons and larger SFX effects where you need more blood on hand.

  • Bright red liquid blood for instant spatters and flowing effects
  • Stays fluid, does not fully dry, runs naturally for realism
  • Based on hydrolysed corn starch, paraben-free
  • Peppermint flavour, safe for use in and around the mouth
  • Washes off skin with warm water and soap; test on fabric first

What is Ben Nye Spray Blood?

Ben Nye Spray Blood is the spray variant from the Ben Nye blood family, built on the same corn-starch formula as the classic Stage Blood. Instead of pouring or using a brush, you work with a directed spray pump that lets you apply realistic splatter patterns, dripping effects or a bloodied mouth in one movement. The bright red colour holds its intensity, even on dark costumes and set pieces.

If you want the same look in a pour bottle instead of a pump, Ben Nye Stage Blood is the logical alternative. For industrial volumes where you need litres of blood, Mass Casualty Blood Powder is the way to go.

Why do pros choose Spray Blood?

The spray gives you the speed and control you need on set or backstage. A short puff from a distance produces fine spatters; closer and longer gives dripping strands and running effects. That is not easy to replicate with a brush or syringe. Choose this size if you are working multiple scenes or multiple people in one evening and do not want to keep refilling a small bottle.

The peppermint flavour makes the spray comfortable for vampire mouth effects and bite wound scenes. Ben Nye uses the same corn-starch base as Stage Blood, so mouth safety is built into the formula. If you want blood in capsule form for a theatrical bite moment, the Complete Blood Pack with Capsules is a great companion.

How to use Ben Nye Spray Blood

Press the pump a few times to prime the spray. Always test the pattern on fabric or a set piece first to judge the distance, before applying to skin or prosthetics.

  • Splatter pattern on skin or clothing: hold the bottle 15 to 25 cm away and work in short bursts. A greater distance gives finer spatters; closer gives larger drops that run.
  • Dripping blood effect: spray closer to the surface and let the blood run freely. Combine with Thick Blood for an open wound as the source of the dripping blood.
  • Vampire and mouth effects: spray briefly and precisely around the corners of the mouth or chin. Always close the eyes when directing the spray towards the face.

Pro tip: for a layered wound effect, apply Thick Blood first as raised wound texture, then add a few sprays of Spray Blood on top so it looks like it is flowing from the wound. The combination of texture and fluid reads very well on camera.

Setting and removal

Spray Blood stays fluid and does not fully dry, so setting is not required. For removal, work in steps:

  • Skin: warm water with mild soap, dabbing to remove. For stubborn residue use a Wonder Towel; finish with a good skin cleanser. On fair skin a light red shadow may remain that fades within a few hours.
  • Clothing and fabric: rinse immediately with cold water. Then wash at 30 degrees Celsius with a stain remover. Always test on an inconspicuous area first. Ben Nye states the blood washes out of most fabrics but gives no 100 percent guarantee.
  • Set dressing and fabrics: heavy spray saturation on light or untreated materials may need extra treatment. Always test first, especially on painted surfaces or foam set pieces.

What can you use it for?

  • Instant blood spatters for Halloween horror looks
  • Dripping blood effects in theatre, film and television
  • Vampire and bite wound mouth effects
  • SFX work where speed and spray control matter
  • Trauma simulation and training scenarios for emergency services
  • Splattering props and costumes for a battle-worn look
