Ben Nye Spray Blood, 30 ml
Ben Nye Spray Blood is a liquid fake blood in spray form from Ben Nye, one of the most trusted names in professional theatre and SFX blood. The bottle delivers bright red blood that stays fluid and runs naturally for realistic drip and splatter behaviour. Perfect for instant blood spatter, dripping effects and vampire mouth work on skin, clothing and props. The 30 ml bottle is the starter size for individual scenes, kits and smaller SFX applications.
- Bright red liquid blood in spray form, for instant spatter
- Stays fluid and runs naturally for realistic blood behaviour
- Based on hydrolysed corn starch, paraben-free
- Peppermint flavour, safe for use in and around the mouth
- Washes off skin with warm water and soap; test on fabric before use
What is Ben Nye Spray Blood?
Ben Nye Spray Blood uses the same formula as the well-known Ben Nye Stage Blood, packaged in a bottle with a spray pump. The hydrolysed corn starch base gives the blood a fluid, lifelike consistency that does not fully dry out.
The spray pump lets you apply spatter or dripping effects in seconds, without needing a brush or spatula to dose the blood. That makes this bottle especially handy for quick touch-ups during a production or for effects on clothing and props.
Why do pros choose Spray Blood?
The spray gives you two things at once: precise control over where you spatter, and the natural running behaviour of liquid blood. Other fake bloods in bottles require an application tool; the spray delivers a realistic spatter pattern straight away.
Choose the 30 ml spray when you need a compact bottle for a kit, a single scene or a small production. For longer shoot days or productions with multiple scenes the 60 ml version makes more sense. Want the same formula without the pump? Ben Nye Stage Blood is the direct alternative.
How to use Ben Nye Spray Blood
Press the spray pump a few times to prime it. Then spray a test pattern onto a neutral surface first, so you can judge the distance and spatter pattern before applying to skin or props.
- Blood spatter on skin or props: hold the bottle 10 to 20 cm away and work in short bursts. Always keep eyes closed when spraying towards the face.
- Dripping effects: spray from closer range and allow the blood to run down for a realistic flowing effect. Combine with Ben Nye Stage Blood in an applicator syringe for extra volume on larger areas.
- Vampire mouth effects: spray a small amount into the corners of the mouth or onto the lips. The peppermint flavour makes this comfortable for actors and performers.
Pro tip: for maximum spatter on clothing or set dressing, spray from 30 to 40 cm away with a quick sideways motion. This creates a wide, irregular spatter that looks like high-impact blood loss rather than a neat circle.
Setting and removal
Spray Blood stays fluid and does not dry fully, which gives you that natural run behaviour but also means you need to account for staining. Work through removal in steps:
- Skin: warm water with mild soap, dabbing to lift the colour. For stubborn residue use a Wonder Towel; finish with a good skin cleanser. On fair skin a faint red tint may linger for a few hours before fading completely.
- Clothing and fabric: rinse immediately with cold water. Then wash at 30 degrees Celsius with a stain remover. Test on an inconspicuous area first. Ben Nye states that the blood washes out of most fabrics, but gives no 100 per cent guarantee.
- Set dressing and decor: heavy spatter patches may need more treatment than single drops. Protect surrounding surfaces with plastic sheeting when working at high volume.
What can you use it for?
- Halloween looks and horror make-up with instant blood spatter
- SFX and special effects make-up for film and theatre
- Vampire mouth effects and bite wound scenes
- Blood effects on costumes and props
- Trauma simulation and first-responder training
- Dripping and flowing blood effects on skin
