Ben Nye Spirit Gum Matte Adhesive is the classic alcohol- and resin-based skin adhesive for theatre, film, SFX, and cosplay. You use it to attach crepe hair beards, moustaches, lace hairpieces, latex prosthetics, bald caps and Ben Nye Nose & Scar Wax. The 29ml bottle has a built-in brush applicator in the cap for precise, controlled work.
What is Ben Nye Spirit Gum?
Spirit Gum is an amber-coloured skin adhesive that dries quickly and leaves a matte finish. The alcohol base creates a strong bond without building up bulk. Once dry, the adhesive is virtually invisible under make-up and prosthetics.
For heavier prosthetic work where sweat resistance matters, look at the Ben Nye Prosthetic Adhesive (water-based acrylate). For removal, use the Spirit Gum Remover, Bond Off!, or Remove-It All.

How to use the adhesive
Step 1: Preparation. Make sure the skin is clean, dry, and free of oils. Removing grease with a toner pad works well, especially around the mouth and on the forehead.
Step 2: Application. Use the built-in brush to apply a thin layer of Spirit Gum to the desired area. Apply to the item itself as well if you are working with lace or latex.
Step 3: Making it tacky. Tap gently with your fingertips or a chamois leather until the adhesive feels sticky. This usually takes 20 to 30 seconds.
Step 4: Pressing and setting. Press the item firmly into the tacky adhesive. For extra hold, apply a second coat, make it tacky again, then press once more.
Pro tip from Linda: When working on larger pieces such as a full beard or bald cap, work in small sections of 2 to 3 cm at a time. This gives you control over the tacky window and stops the adhesive from drying out before you can press the item down.
Removal
You have three removal options: the Spirit Gum Remover (specific, oil-based), Bond Off! (general-purpose, strong), or Remove-It All (multi-purpose, fragrance-free for sensitive skin).
Apply remover to the edges of the application, allow it to soak in briefly, then work gently inwards until the item lifts off. Remove any adhesive residue with a cotton pad and cleanse the skin with water and a mild soap.
