Ben Nye Nose & Scar Wax Fair, 71gr
Ben Nye Nose & Scar Wax Fair, 71gr is a professional modelling wax for creating 3D effects on the skin. Use it for broken noses, cuts, scars, bullet holes and other skin distortions. The wax is firm enough to hold its shape, yet pliable enough to blend seamlessly into the skin. This 71g size is the standard professional format for regular prosthetic and SFX work.
What is Ben Nye Nose & Scar Wax?
Ben Nye Nose & Scar Wax is a professional modelling wax based on petrolatum, beeswax and carnauba wax. The warmth of your hands softens it quickly, making it easy to knead and work directly on the skin.
The Fair shade has a slightly translucent skin tone that works well with lighter complexions. For warmer skin tones there is also Nose & Scar Wax Brown and Nose & Scar Wax Light Brown.
Why choose this wax?
Firm yet shapeable: the wax holds its position during modelling but remains soft enough to create sharp shapes and thin blended edges. No moulds or casting techniques needed.
Natural skin finish: the Fair shade is slightly translucent, allowing your natural skin tone to show subtly through the wax. This makes the effect look more realistic on camera and up close.
Professional standard: Ben Nye Nose & Scar Wax has been used for years in theatre, film, cosplay and special effects make-up. This 71g pot gives you enough wax for dozens of small effects or several larger projects.
How to use the wax
Step 1: knead the wax until soft. Take a small piece and knead it briefly between your fingers until it becomes pliable. Do not over-work it, as overly warm wax can become sticky.
Step 2: apply Spirit Gum. Apply a thin layer of Ben Nye Spirit Gum or ProAiir Pros-Aide to the skin where you want to place the wax. Allow the adhesive to dry for a few seconds until it feels tacky.
Step 3: model the shape. Press the wax gently onto the skin and sculpt the effect into shape. Blend the edges smoothly using a spatula or your fingers. A small amount of vaseline on your tools helps prevent the wax from sticking.
Step 4: set and colour. Set the wax with a thin layer of Neutral Set Powder. This removes the shine and makes it easier to apply colour over the wax. Colour the creation with cream make-up or alcohol-activated make-up.
Pro tip from Linda: want the wax to stay firmly in place through long shoot days, theatre performances or Halloween events? Apply a thin layer of Ben Nye Liquid Latex Clear over the wax.
Setting and removal
The wax stays securely in place through the combination with Spirit Gum.
Remove the bulk of the wax with your spatula. Lift Spirit Gum residue with Ben Nye Bond Off or Ben Nye Spirit Gum Remover on a cotton pad. Cleanse the skin afterwards with water and soap.
