Chavant NSP Medium is the industry-standard sculpting clay for prosthetic work. The sulphur-free, wax-rich formula offers high adhesion and flexibility, making it ideal for building up fine detail that is ultimately cast in silicone.

What is Chavant NSP Medium?

NSP stands for Non-Sulfur Plasteline: a sulphur-free, oil-wax-based sculpting clay you will find in virtually every professional SFX prosthetic build. Unlike water-based clays, it never dries out. Heat it gently and it becomes workable again for new projects or corrections to existing sculpts.

The melting point is around 80°C, which means you can melt, pour, brush or spray it depending on your working method. The medium hardness strikes a good balance between structural stability and ease of sculpting.

How to use Chavant NSP Medium

1. Warm the clay briefly in a microwave-safe container on low power, no more than one minute at a time (longer and it will become liquid).
2. Let it cool slightly before handling with your hands. The texture will feel like firm soft putty.
3. Sculpt your piece using your usual tools.
4. Allow to cool until your sculpt holds its shape firmly before moving to the next step (making your silicone mould).
5. Reuse: heat briefly again for your next project.

Practical tips

• Do not let the clay boil in the microwave or it will be ruined. Work in short intervals.
• The melting point is around 80°C: stay below this temperature for the best results.
• Combine with Mouldlife Transil 20 to create a silicone mould around your sculpt.
