What is the Mehron Face Stippel Spons?
The Mehron Face Stippel Spons measures approximately 5 x 2.5 x 2.5 cm per sponge. The open-cell structure is deliberately coarser than a smooth foam sponge: the gaps between the cells create the texture pattern that transfers onto the skin when you dab or stipple.
This texture quality makes the stipple sponge ideal for SFX work and character make-up where you want irregular, organic patterns rather than a smooth, even layer.
How do you use the Mehron Face Stippel Spons?
For stubble: dab the sponge into grey, brown or black face paint, making sure the product does not fully saturate the open cell structure. Then stipple onto the jawline and chin area for a realistic stubble effect.
For bruises and abrasions: dab with red, purple, blue or brown pigment to mimic the naturally uneven patterns of a bruise or graze. Work in multiple colour layers to build depth. Add a blood effect using Mehron Coagulated Blood Gel. For skin texture on wax and sculpt gel: lightly stipple the sponge over a smooth wax or gel application to create natural-looking skin texture. The impression of the open cells gives the illusion of real pores and small surface irregularities. For age spots and pigmentation: dab with brown or dark pigment in an asymmetric pattern for an ageing effect. The coarse cell structure ensures the spots look irregular and natural. Pro technique: load the sponge sparingly. If the open structure is no longer visible, you will get a solid layer with no texture and the stipple effect is lost. Always build up in thin layers rather than over-loading the sponge.
Care and cleaning
For sponges used only with dry face paint or pigment: rinse immediately after use with lukewarm water and a mild soap. Squeeze gently without wringing and leave to air dry. Sponges used with wax, latex, sculpt gel or blood are usually impossible to clean thoroughly and are treated as single-use in practice.
