How to use Diamond FX face paint
Activate the paint with a small amount of clean water. Mist the surface lightly with a spray bottle, or use a well-squeezed sponge or damp brush. Clean water keeps colours clear and true - use a water tub and refresh it between colours.
Tips for a professional result
- Use the right brushes. The FBFX Face Paint Brushes are made specifically for water-activated face paint with soft synthetic bristles that don't leave fibres behind. For detail work and lines, reach for the FBFX Round Face Paint Brushes.
- Use the right sponge. For large areas, work with a Yellow Face Paint Sponge. Latex foam sponges are not suitable for water-activated face paint.
- Keep your water clean. A water tub with clean water next to your workspace prevents colours from muddying or becoming dull.
- Barrier layer for sensitive skin or intense colours. Apply a thin coat of Marley Skin beforehand. This barrier layer makes removal easier and prevents staining with intense shades like turquoise, dark green, or dark blue.
How to remove Diamond FX face paint
Remove the paint with mild, non-moisturising soap and cold to lukewarm water. Hot water opens pores and allows pigment to sink deeper into the skin - avoid it. Gently work in the soap and rinse thoroughly. Repeat until all paint is gone.
For a cleaner, quicker removal without scrubbing:
- Diamond FX Skin Soap - developed specifically for removing Diamond FX face paint
- Remover Towel - a damp wipe that takes off paint in one stroke, ideal at events and children's parties where you paint multiple faces in a row
What to use Diamond FX Essential Light Blue for
- Children's face painting - butterflies, fairies, mermaids, and sky scenes at birthday parties and events

- Cosplay and fantasy looks - sky creatures, ice princesses, elves, and other blue characters
- Body painting - background colour or base layer for sky, water, and fantasy themes

Frequently asked questions
Why are there sometimes small cracks in the paint?
Large temperature differences during storage or transport can cause the wax to expand and contract, leading to surface cracks. They usually disappear once you start using the paint. There is no effect on quality or shelf life.
Is Diamond FX safe for children?
Yes, Diamond FX Essential is hypoallergenic, fragrance-, paraben-, and lanolin-free, gluten-free, and contains no animal ingredients. The Essential range meets EU and FDA cosmetics guidelines. Always do a patch test 24 hours in advance for sensitive skin.
How many faces can you paint with 30g?
A 30g pot covers approximately 10 to 15 full faces, depending on layer thickness and technique.
What is the difference between Essential, Metallic, and Neon?
Essential is a matte base face paint. Metallic has a glossy shimmer finish. Neon colours glow under UV/blacklight - the Neon Blue, Violet, and White are semi-transparent under regular light and come alive under blacklight; the other Neon colours are opaque and vivid.
Can you apply Diamond FX over other colours?
Yes, that is one of its key strengths. The wax base and high pigmentation mean the top colour covers without the underlying colour showing through. Product photos are taken under professional daylight lamps without colour editing. Colours may vary slightly depending on screen settings.
Compliant with EU Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009. Product photos are taken under professional lighting. Colours may differ slightly depending on your screen settings.
