Diamond FX Essential Black 90gr - wax-based face paint

The Diamond FX Essential Black 90gr is a professional wax-based face paint known for its high pigmentation and strong coverage. The wax base lets you build up layers without colours bleeding into each other. With this 90 gram pot you can paint 30 to 45 full faces.

Diamond FX Essential is hypoallergenic, gluten-free, free from animal ingredients, parabens, fragrance and lanolin. The Essential range is formulated with EU- and FDA-compliant cosmetic ingredients and suitable for the skin of children and adults. Browse all our other Diamond FX Essential colours.

How to use Diamond FX face paint

Activate the face paint with a small amount of clean water. Mist the surface lightly with a spray bottle, or use a well-squeezed sponge or damp brush. Clean water keeps your colours bright and true - use a water pot and refresh the water between colours.

Tips for a professional result

  • Use the right brushes. The FBFX Face Paint Brushes are made specifically for water-activated face paint with soft synthetic hairs that leave no fluff behind. For detail work and fine lines, reach for the FBFX Round Face Paint Brushes.
  • Use the right sponge. For covering large areas, use a Yellow Face Paint Sponge. Latex foam sponges are not suitable for water-activated face paint.
  • Keep your water clean. A water pot with fresh water next to your workstation stops colours from muddying or looking dull.
  • Barrier layer for sensitive skin or intense colours. Apply a thin layer of Marley Skin first. This barrier makes removal easier and prevents staining (pigment residue) with intense shades like turquoise, dark green or dark blue.

How to remove Diamond FX face paint

Remove with a mild, non-moisturising soap and cool to lukewarm water. Hot water opens pores and lets pigment sink deeper into the skin - avoid it. Work the soap in gently and rinse thoroughly. Repeat until the face paint is fully removed.

For a cleaner and quicker removal without scrubbing:

  • Diamond FX Skin Soap - specially developed for removing Diamond FX face paint
  • Remover Towel - a damp wipe that takes the face paint off in one swipe, ideal at events and children's parties when you're painting face after face

What to use Diamond FX Essential Black for

  • Children's face painting - birthdays, school events, parties and fairs
  • Body painting competitions and performances - high pigment that stays put on skin
  • Halloween and themed events - witches, bats, gothic looks, animal prints
  • Cosplay and character make-up - eye contours, stubble effects, line work over other colours
  • Theatre and SFX - base black for accents, shadows and fine detail

Frequently asked questions

Why are there sometimes small cracks in the face paint?

Large temperature changes during storage or transport can cause the wax to expand and contract, creating surface cracks. They usually disappear once you start using the paint. There is no effect on quality or shelf life.

Is Diamond FX safe for children?

Yes, Diamond FX Essential is hypoallergenic, fragrance-, paraben- and lanolin-free, gluten-free and contains no animal ingredients. The Essential range meets EU and FDA cosmetics guidelines. Always do a patch test 24 hours in advance for sensitive skin.

How many faces can you paint with 90 grams?

A 90 gram pot covers approximately 30 to 45 full faces, depending on layer thickness and technique.

What is the difference between Essential, Metallic and Neon?

Essential is a matte base face paint. Metallic has a glossy shimmer finish. Neon colours glow under UV/blacklight - Neon Blue, Violet and White are semi-transparent under regular light and only come to life under UV/blacklight; the other Neon shades are opaque and vivid.

Can you apply Diamond FX over other colours?

Yes, that is one of its key strengths. The wax base and high pigmentation mean the top colour covers without the underlying colour showing through. Product photos are taken under professional daylight lamps without colour editing. Colours may vary slightly depending on your screen settings.
