Ben Nye Bone Wax 71gr
Ben Nye Bone Wax 71gr is a professional modelling wax in a bone tint (ivory-white beige) for creating protruding bones and hard structures in special effects make-up. It is ideal for bone-through-skin effects, skeleton elements, creature teeth and zombie looks with visible bone points. The ivory-white beige colour gives an instantly bone-like appearance, so less base colour is needed. This 71-gram size is the standard pro format for regular use.
What is Ben Nye Bone Wax?
Ben Nye Bone Wax is a professional modelling wax based on petrolatum, beeswax and carnauba wax. The warmth of your hands makes it soft and easy to work with, so you can sculpt directly on the skin.
The bone tint has an ivory-white beige colour that looks instantly bone-like. For 3D wound effects in a skin tone, there is also Ben Nye Nose & Scar Wax Fair, 71gr.
Why choose this wax?
Firm yet easy to sculpt: the wax holds its shape during modelling, but remains pliable enough to create sharp bone forms and thin blended edges. No moulds or casting techniques needed.
Bone tint colour: the ivory-white beige colour gives a direct bone-like appearance. No extra base colour is needed for the bone effect, saving time on complex creations. Professional standard: Ben Nye Bone Wax has been used for years in theatre, film, cosplay and special effects make-up. This 71-gram pot is enough for dozens of small effects or several larger projects.
How to use the wax
Step 1: knead the wax until soft. Take a small piece of wax and knead it briefly between your fingers until it softens. Do not over-warm it, as wax that is too warm can become sticky.
Step 2: apply Spirit Gum. Apply a thin layer of Ben Nye Spirit Gum or ProAiir Pros-Aide to the area of skin where you want to place the wax. Leave the adhesive to dry for a few seconds until it feels tacky.
Step 3: model the shape. Press the wax gently onto the skin and sculpt the bone effect into shape. Blend the edges smoothly using a spatula or your fingers. A little vaseline on your tools helps prevent the wax from sticking.
Step 4: set and colour. Set the wax with a thin layer of Neutral Set Powder. This removes the shine and tackiness and makes colouring easier. Once set, colour the creation with cream make-up or alcohol make-up.
Pro tip from Linda: want the wax to stay firmly in place during long shoot days, theatre performances or Halloween events? Apply a thin layer of Ben Nye Liquid Latex Clear over the wax.
Setting and removal
The wax stays in place well thanks to the combination with Spirit Gum.
Remove the bulk of the wax with your spatula. Remaining Spirit Gum lifts off with Ben Nye Bond Off or Ben Nye Spirit Gum Remover on a cotton pad. Then cleanse the skin with water and soap.
